Yesterday I spent six hours straight walking around down town.
I went for
Luminaria, stumbled on to a concurrently running
La Villita's Alamo Irish Festival, and also took in downtown sillies (Ripley's Haunted Adventure, Tomb Raider 3D, Guinness World Records Museum, and Mirror Maze). I walked through/passed more museums than I have cards for (around twenty? Or thirty?) and saw amazing performances (ex. San Antonio Brass, San Antonio Opera, School House Rock, Tali Dance, Youth Orchestra of San Antonio, Flamenco y Mas, mediocre magician, Writer's Block beat poetry, Ballet Conservatory of South Texas). I know I left two hours early, and what I did see was only a sliver of the offerings, but the only thing I really felt I'd miss out on was the San Antonio Symphony performance and I see them during the year a few times.
Favorite one is still that before Luminaria started I was wandering around downtown and became part of a group creating a huge mandala with colored chalk and sand. It was amazing fun. I had children near me and the woman who ran it was sweet and there was a guy on the opposite side who hadn't done art in years but stayed and worked a section. About two hours later, once Luminaria had started, a doctor who's name I have forgotten, came and did an eastern (possibly Hindu?) tali (spl?) dance on it. The dance itself was awe-inspiring, the act of such art and beauty destroying the mandal and recreating impressionist art, this swirl and mingle, with the colors moved me so much.
All of it just drove home how much I love the art culture of my city. One day I want to be in the place where I can be taking in arts (and at least aiming to take in available arts) twice a week. It's hardly expensive and it's good to be supporting.
Finished it up the night with a St. Patrick’s Day party.
My knees very literally hate me today, but I'm rolling with the punches. I knew they would and chose to anyway.
A few hours and there'll be birthday dinner for my mom which should be fun.
Still sleepy but the day is going well.
My love to each and every one of you.
