Handling the Shoe Invasion

Jul 30, 2006 19:22

During my late teen years I did the hodge-podge pile of shoes on a closet floor. During the last two or three years I'd used a small shelf. Both these methods I've decided are outdated and very unorganized. The first is messy piles, while the second lends to disorderly stacking. I'm, also, tired of the knowledge that shoes in the dark of a closet don't get worn. So decisions had to be made beyond 1) no closet, 2) no door hanging and 3) no shelf. So I ran around today looking at shoe racks/trees to sit next to my dresser.

Options:

Container Store -- 30 Pair Shoe Rack for $30
Walmart -- 20 Pair Shoe Rack for $20
Target -- NA / Still need to drive out there

Though it's steeper I'm leaning toward the Container Store shoe rack, as it's taller and slimmer than any of the other options I ran across today. It's actually a little under my own height, which is scary-amusing. It places the rack as tall and noticeable next to the dresser, which as above noted I want them somewhere I can see them. Eye and Hand level is comforting (if a little daunting).

The one at Walmart while tempting was much more squat and wider, which would make for it being overshadowed and left simply to the floor a lot. I had one of those once upon a time near the front door, with Phoenix. Worked some well, but it was mostly a throw things at location. I don't want one like that either. One last trip to Target sometime after dinner tonight will either change the place I’m getting it or lock it in to The Container Store. Any other advise on where I should look for shoe trees/racks?

Probably won't happen for another weeks or two. Maybe three. I'll probably get it the same weekend I acquire my corner desk for the living room. Comforting to have it handled and a wonderful, relaxing distraction for the early evening.

I'm feeling quite luxuriantly relaxed and witchy at the moment, so I'm going to put it to some good use. I'm going to go work on writing up more of the things for the Household Charms/Activities until dinner time. If you have advise on shoe trees or even household charms you'd like to share, feel free to put your two sense in!

Love to you all
