Yesterday, full of win!

First, I went back for Attempt #2 at soft contacts, and got them in and out in 15 min. flat! In fact, I have them in right now. Go me!!!

Also....

I got into the JFK University Consciousness graduate program!!!!!!!!!! I had a phone interview last night with Marilyn (director of the program), and it went really well! She said my personal statement was "remarkable!" I was nervous initially because I'd already spoken to Marilyn for like an hour about a month ago, telling her my story and what I wanted, and getting her story as well. So I had no idea what we'd talk about for this interview. We mostly just talked practical stuff - how I could get a job at the university to pay for an apt., and prerequisites, etc. At the end of this "interview" she welcomed me to the program and said she'd be sending out my official acceptance letter, and that I'd get it in about 2 weeks!

It's so wonderful to be accepted, wanted by a place. It's nice to find a school that's a good fit. I also took an enormous risk and was very bold in my personal statement to JFK, including a paragraph about my involvement in the kink community - I was writing about transcendent states of consciousness and I wrote about it very appropriately. The subject fit in perfectly, and I had my mom, Robert, and Sir Keith all edit it for me. Nonetheless, it was a bold move to include that, but apparently that didn't faze them. Fucking awesome Californians!

How did I celebrate? IHOP!

I think I did a good job with everything, calling and talking to current grad students, making myself known. So when I visit in March, I already have like four different people who are waiting to meet with me out there, have coffee and chat, show me around, etc.

My dad called me later that day. He totally shocked me by saying that he's getting a bonus check in the next couple of months, and wants to come out to San Francisco with me when I visit the school and the area!!! Now, my dad hasn't been on a plane in just about 30 years, and the farthest he's gone in about 20 is visiting me in Madison. One of my biggest fears was being so far from my dad, who isn't very travel-savvy, and financially tighter than the garter belt on a Baptist preacher's wife at an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast. So the fact that he's willing to try and put some money together and check out Cali with me means a lot to me. I really hope we can make that work. I think if he visits and sees it all, it won't be so daunting to him. Yay for dads!

Saaaaaan Francisco! The school itself is in Pleasant Hill, which is a far flung east suburb. I was recommended by the grad students, if I'm a city girl and like action, that I should live around Berkeley, or somewhere on the BART line between SF and Pleasant Hill. That's where I'm going to look, I think.

Saaaaan Francisco!

Oh, and Nikki and I designed our cyberotica outfits for the next Sabbat de Sade this Sunday - should be fabulous! I usually don't dress up for Sabbats, just generic fetish-y wear, so this should be fun. I'm going to look so slutty though. But hopefully artsy-slutty. White go-go boots!
