Steak and stuff

And the most significant thing about my long weekend.. Is that my experiment with sous vide meat worked!!

More details on this and watching old old, Star Trek under the cut!

Water-bath Steak!!
I'm really pleased the steak work. My friend made this machine which is like a water bath at constant temperature, and there are online charts on what meats to put on and for how long. You pack the meat - in my case, rather pricy grain-fed rib eye- in a Ziplock, squeeze out the air, and immerse in 60 degrees C for 2 hours. Voila! Medium cooked steak! It was finished with a torch, but that was more for effect - the meat is cooked through.

This means I can now bring steak OR cake to parties and pot-lucks! Very happy as I hate stove- top cooking and am pants at frying stuff.

The Wrath of Khan
My friend and I ate these steak slices ( with truffle fries and pear/walnut/ cheese salad, all home made and Very Nice!) and watched this old old ST classic- I'd never seen it and wanted to compare with Into Darkness.
Good grief, it was so ... Hammy? Cheesy? We all enjoyed it, but movie- making has moved on since that time; and I though Benedict Cumberbatch's villain was more threatening. In the old movie, the villains looked like a rock band in caveman outfits. Wow. But the end was still quite sad :( with Spock.. You know...

Now that I've borrowed the whole blu-ray DVD set, I suppose I can watch the rest!

And Singapore is another year older. We are so very lucky.

food, that's a first!, rl
