1. With a little help from my friends, Rob and Jason to be exact, I was able to move all my worldly goods (or those not in storage) to my new room in Scmihof-Andel. The villa-style building itself is a modest 3 stories and tucked into the hills on the West End of the city. Deceptivly quite, Andel (a city center location) is a 9 minute bus ride away or, when the weather improves, about a 15 minute walk. The neighborhood itself was once the domain of Prague's rich. The massive First Republic-Era homes, some converted into two family homes or flats, once held a significant portion of the cities Jewish population. While the original owners are long dead and gone, current residents have kept up the area thus preserving a bit of Old World glamour and style. A few new flat blocks have gone up, but despite all the chich of the new modern designs, they do look a bit out of place. Attractive, but rather...conspicuous. My own spacious but humble flat overlooks part of the city and, as an added bonus, the sunrise. Joanna and Chris have been very friendly and warm, making me feel very much at home.
2. Made the obligatory early-morning, post-move pilgramige to IKEA with Sarah and Mary-Beth with the even more obligatory pre-IKEA breakfast at Starbucks. We could have been in any American suburb that day; we tried to forget that even in the face of Gingerbread Lattes and muffins. Anyway, we managed to manouver through the crush and the maze-inspired floorplan ( note to managers; those little arrows? not so much..) to find most of what we were looking for and then some. Also, curse you IKEA Children for your manipulative, make-babies now Nordic adorability! Serious, it made you want to be a kid or *gasp* actually go about having one if only to decorate his/er room with wall lamps adorned with retro-car riding frogs! Moving on....
Decided that my MASSIVE new bed required something more then the provided pepto-pink blanket so, I selected sheets, a blanket/throw and pillows in cream and white along with a soft, thick quilted blanket in the most luscious shade of emerald green (with matching pillow; natch). The flat's policy on heating is very....conservative...hence excessive bed covers. Bought bland but functinoal black hangers and treated myself to a tea/soap scented candle that smells far better then it sounds. It also matched the bed's color sceme. Did I mentioned the curtains were white? So yes, I've decided to go with green and pale shades for the room...if you hadn't already figured that out.
3. Spent Saturday afternoon moving my furniturea round, measuring for the needed shelving unit, setting up the bed (which looks fantastic and so warm!), and running into town on errands. The evening was spent playing with Mary-Beth's insanly adorable new dog, a Cavilear King Charles Spaniel, and going for a delicious dinner ( with Mary-Beth, Richard, Jim, and Sarah 1 and 2 as company) in this uber-cozy, tucked-away-from-it-all resturant.
4. Borrowed 'Twilight' from Sarah T. Am very glad I did. I might have felt cheated otherwise. I could go on an on about what was wrong with it ( the predictably protective and dominearing Edward, the emo-rollar-coaster Bella, repetative descriptions...) and right ( found the other memebers of the Cullen clan to be more interesting chracters, the excellent awkward/overwhelming/all-consuming nature of first teen love) but we would be here all day. I have, of course, alerady finished it. A quick read indeed.
In short, Stephaine Myer has given me hope that if she can make it, I have a damn good shot as well. Okay, that was a bit back-handed, but you know what I mean.
Enjoyed the movie though. Czech audiences, even enchanted teenage girls, do not shriek/scream/giggle for the duration of any given movie.
5. Sunday was lovely a indugent, not-at-all awkward, but instead-very-lovely brunch with Rob, compete with some MST3K via YouTube, checking out bus/hotel rates in and to Berlin. Sunday night was a tortilla-buffet dinner party at Jim, MB's, and Nick's. I put away three of those savory bad boys laden with tomato, fresh avacado, chicken, pork, spicy sauce, sour cream, beans, and lemon...but not all at once obviously. Grilled veggies on the side, sparkling red wine, a champers toast, dark chocolate, and 'Little Britian' on DVD capped off our small party. Good times.
6. Am incapable of talking to LadyPenny, MB's new dog, like normal human being. She's too tooth-meltingly cute. Really impossible i.e. 'Whose a wittle Schmu-schmu! (?) You are , you are Penny-kins!'
7. On another semi-aside. My 7:30 Friday morning B2 course never showed up. No calls, no sms to let me know. Nothing. Becasue, you know, I have nothing better to do with my time. Like, in this case, sleep an extra hour. Sure its a last-minute cancel and I'll still get paid, but I think its rather disrespectful to not let your tutor in on the mass ditch.
8. Was a little testy Friday night. I know why, but that is a whole other LJ. May need lots of 'hugs' after that one.
9. Not eating enough again. No idea why. Well, yes and no, but I do know that while its 'good' for my waist line, my blood sugar has been all over the palce. This must stop.
10. On a final note, my invoices have been making me a very, very happy tutor. Note; invoices are what we fill out to record hours and that equals pay. Have already recived bonus and due one for my pay in two weeks time.
The End..... ?
