Cadre
The star of my love
Waxes and wanes,
Holding me to its cheek
Or nuzzling my thumb.
I sit with you
In venous trenches,
Heads down
Breaking bread
After wiping off the earth.
You with your sharp teeth,
Fencer’s tongue,
Found man’s jaw,
And astral light.
Sometimes a smile is
Enough.
But now it’s almost time to go back
Into this essential fray.
My knife is as clean
As my conscience.
We pack in silence
Exchanging tokens and handshakes.
Later on
I’ll write in my journal by the light of a cigarette.
But now I just miss
All of you.
I wish you could join me
With all that you have to bring.
But those sunglasses hide
The world from you
Same as you from it.
Alone
It always comes back to this.
Alone
And I am left
One of the few
Still willing to die
For a mistake.
-Polyphony? Opinions appreciated. Keep in mind I don't 'do' poetry.
