Movies I want to see
Movies I've seen
My review
Horror
Alone in the Dark (1982)
Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows
Cigarette Burns (2002)
Dolls (1987)
House of 1,000 Corpses (2003) Pretty good for the gore, not much terror. The ending is a little weird.
Last House on the Left (1972 & 2009) I really liked it. I'll definitely keep in mind not to anger any fathers who work in the ER. I didn't like the part with the microwave. I don't think most would do that with the door open.
Scanners (1981)
Silent Night Deadly Night (1984)
The People Under the Stairs (1991) Really good. I can definitely tell it's a Wes Craven movie. I felt the ending was a little too drawn out, but they did a good job of covering their bases and making sure there were no plot-holes.
Return to House on Haunted Hill
Never Cry Werewolf
Insanitarium
Prom Night (2008)
All the Boys Love Mandy Lane
Shutter (2008) Definitely one of my favourite Asian horrors. And there's a definite twist at the end.
Torment
The Unborn Interesting. I definitely liked the way it included historical stuff such as the part about what Mengele did to twins during the Holocaust.
Skinwalkers Definitely not one of my favourite werewolf movies. The werewolf forms themselves were cheesy, even keeping in mind that this is not a major movie. Also, it takes an interesting Navajo legend and completely destroys it.
Hostel II
An American Haunting
Altered
The Devil's Rejects Pretty much the gorefest of the first one, but with more Baby Firefly, which kinda made the movie for me. Stupid girlcrush.
Hide and Seek
The Uninvited (2009) Really good. I didn't realize it was an American remake of a Korean horror movie at first, until something seemed familiar. Either way, it's definitely a good one, and I highly recommend it. Note to self: BUY THIS.
The Poughkeepsie Tapes Kind of weird, set up like a documentary. There are some creepier moments. Pretty good overall, though.
The Haunting of Molly Hartley Cheesy. Very, very cheesy. Like nacho cheese kinda cheesy.
Mirrors Creepy, but pretty good. It made me not want to look in mirrors ever again.
The Midnight Meat Train Interesting. With a good twist at the end.
Shiver
The Orphanage
The Institution (2006)
Walled In I liked it. The twists were very interesting.
Unrest
Dark Remains
Amusement Weird. The only section that really freaked me out was the one with the clown. Fuck, I hate clowns.
Hallettsville
The Haunting in Conneticut First movie in a really long time to actually make me jump and scream aloud. Definitely one of my favourites.
Bitten
Bled
The Lost
Manhunter
Autopsy
28 Days Later
28 Weeks Later
Carrier (2009)
Shutter Island (2010) I read the book first, so I knew what was going on. But the movie is still really good. It's definitely a psychological thriller. Holy crap, the ending.
The Wolfman (2010) Good, especially since it hearkened back to when werewolves weren't cute, fluffy puppies like in Twilight.
Halloween 2 (2009) Kinda weird, but good. It took a while at the beginning to understand what was going on. And the weird psycho-trip with Michael and his dead mom was confusing. The ending was ambiguous and creepy.
Legion (2010) Hot. At least, Michael was hot. Or maybe it was Gabriel. Whoever it was, he was really damn hot. And the special effects were good.
Dead Snow (Germany)
Eden Lake (England)
Martyrs (France)
Pontypool (Canada)
TimeCrimes (Spain)
The Last Exorcism The set-up was good, but the ending got really ridiculous and cliche. It was kind of stupid, really, but I'll probably buy it because I like movies about exorcism.
Mama (2013) It sounded really good, and was fairly decent up until the ending. Then they spent way too much time focusing on the actual scare itself and it lost all mystery/scariness. Plus, the concept is kind of unrealistic and overplayed. (My friend says it would've been more interesting had it been fairies.)
Cabin in the Woods (2011) The concept was really good, but the execution was dumb. It could have been an awesome movie, if played out differently. But I really like a major part of it, the main concept of what's really going on (or well, some of it, anyway) and wish/hope someone else plays with that idea in the future. (**The movie is a little better if watched intoxicated.)
Evil Dead (1981)
Evil Dead II (1987)
Army of Darkness (1992)
Evil Dead (2013)
The Conjuring (2013)
R.I.P.D. (2013) Hilarious and well-done.
World War Z (2013) ?
The World's End (2013) Another awesomely hilarious "horror" with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. This is more of a thriller though. Bonus points for Martin Freeman.
You're Next (2011)
Insidious
Insidious 2 (2013)
Haunt (2013)
Carrie (2013)
Jessabelle (2014)
I, Frankenstein (2014)
Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters (2014) [only because of the use of dhampir, moroi, and strigoi]
Battle Royale Didn't expect to like it as much as I did, but Japan out-did itself. I put it under this category due to the gore and concept of the movie.
House at the End of the Street (2012)
Afflicted (2013)
Oculus (2013)
Only Lovers Left Alive (2013)
The Quiet Ones (2014)
Jessabelle (2014) ?
Kitchen Sink (2015)
SciFi/Fantasy
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
Divergent (2014)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
Godzilla (2014)
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
The Maze Runner (2014) ?
Sin City 2 (2014)
Drama
Noah (2014)
Maleficient (2014)
The Fault in Our Stars (2014)
The Giver (2014) ?
Animation
How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014)
The Boxtrolls (2014)
The Book of Life (2014) ?
