Pausing the videogame for the seventh time in the past three minutes, Shiloh glanced over at the clock. Whining softly in protest at how slow time was moving, she got up and wandered over to the phone. On the counter next to it was a small pile of coupons for various fast food restaurants. The urge to tear them up passed by, but she still just stood there glaring at the paper as if everything was its fault.

“This is stupid…” she muttered, moving away to go look in the fridge.

That was also stupid. Between the two of them, there were never any leftovers. If she couldn’t finish her part, she “helped” him finish it off.

Still…she wanted something he cooked, over some fast food.

Unfortunately, he was at work until some ungodly hour in the morning. Shiloh didn’t have to get up, but knew he had work early again. It was stupid and unfair. If they were going to run him ragged, she’d have something to say about it. It might get him fired, though, so she tried to reign in her patience.

It was Spring Break, though! Friends were off having fun on the beach and what was she doing? Scrambling to find ways to waste her night, that’s what.

The sad thing was, this would be how most of her break would probably be. If she was lucky, Shiloh would spend some time with Devin where he wasn’t getting caught up on sleep.

Going back to the counter, she rifled through the discount sheets. Most weren’t places that delivered, but she didn’t feel like leaving. Honestly, she didn’t trust her driving with her temper flaring right now.

She’d probably cut the wrong person off and somehow get herself killed. The thought made her laugh.

Serve him right. Come home to a notice from the cops that the hospital needed his permission to turn off life support. Teach him to spend my Spring Break working. As soon as she finished thinking it out, she felt guilty. He was working so that they could stay together. He paid the full rent, too, while she went to school.

“Maybe I should get a job…” She grabbed a sheet for Godfather’s Pizza and moved to find her cell to order. “Or see a psychologist about this habit of talking aloud to myself.”

Her revenge on Devin turned out to be a lot more passive-aggressive. She ordered three large pizzas with the intention of making him eat at least two on his own. It sounded like a pretty damn good idea to her. It’d hurt at first, but in the end they’d both be pleased with the result: Devin with the massage on his belly, Shiloh with the big, hard belly to play with. When they woke up, it would be soft and malleable again.

Now she had five and a half hours to wait for him to clock out. Then probably another hour for him to actually leave.

If he has to work until closing, why the fuck does he have to work opening?

As annoyed and frustrated as she was, Shiloh didn't really dwell on anything. To pass the time until the pizza came, she returned to the game. If she didn’t, the stupid music that played while it was on Pause would only lead her to throwing another controller at the screen.

With fifteen to twenty minutes to wait, she plopped back down onto the pillows she’d gathered to sit on instead of the couch. She had the habit of getting too into a game and jerking the control around depending on how active the scene was. Devin made fun of it to the point where she stopped playing when he was around.

There wasn’t much time to play videogames when he was home, though…

Shiloh woke up to screaming coming from the TV. A girl was being killed in the middle of a makeout session, or something. The movie wasn’t really what woke her up, anyway. Funny how she could sleep through murder scenes, but still hear shoes being kicked off.

“Devin?” she called, sitting up and rubbing her eyes.

There was an undignified squeak from the kitchenette. With a little grin, Shiloh pushed herself up, only to groan softly at the reminder of the whole pizza she’d consumed. Comfort indulging definitely came with a price.

“What’re you doing up, Shiloh?” Devin asked around a slice of pepperoni pizza.

His food radar never ceased to amaze her.

After stretching to pop her back, she shuffled over to him with a small smile. He just watched her wearily; not weary of her, she knew, but exhausted from working.

“I was waiting for you,” she answered, nuzzling his shoulder when she got close enough.

He smelled like sweat, plastic, and those paper bags at grocery stores. She ignored it and slid her arms around his waist with a soft sigh. Her arms didn’t reach all the way, with his large belly hanging over his jeans, but she liked it that way. She had to squish her arms in to reach this much.

Devin wrapped an arm around her with a soft sigh, eating his second slice of pizza with the other hand. “You have class tomorrow, though…”

With a small smile, Shiloh shook her head. “No, I don’t. I’m on Spring Break remember?”

He looked down at her and blinked. “What? When were finals?”

She shrugged. “Last week.”

His head dropped and he looked away. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have distracted you from studying.”

As much as she wanted to laugh, Shiloh still bit it back. The irony of him thinking their time together outweighed the time she spent studying definitely didn’t escape her. His heart was in the right place, so she leaned up and kissed his nose.

“I studied whenever you were at work so we could spend the rest of the time together;” she murmured, pressing his lips to his cheek next to kiss there. “I’m glad I spent time with you goofing off. It was a good stress relief.”

Devin looked doubtful, reaching for another slice of pizza. “Really? I didn’t interfere?”

“Of course not.” She pulled the piece of pizza from his hand and dropped it back onto the box.

At his noise of protest, she just nudged him to the bedroom.

“You’ve had two and you ate at work. You really need to sleep now, okay? Go on. I’ll put away the leftovers.”

Devin nodded and waddled away without anymore protest. With a fond sigh, Shiloh quickly put away the food and moved to follow, turning off the TV as she went.

To her surprise, he was sitting on the edge of the bed instead of passed out asleep. She raised an eyebrow and stepped into the room.

“Dev?”

He jerked his head up like he’d been asleep. “Huh?”

“Why aren’t you asleep?” she scolded, frowning a little. It was almost like talking to a drunk, but she knew he wasn’t.

Devin sighed wearily and glanced at the bathroom. “I need to shower.”

Both amused and guilty, Shiloh walked over to gently nudge him back. He whined in protest, but didn’t fight and fell back onto the bed. A small moan escaped him as his muscles relaxed.

“No I have to work twice as hard to get up and shower,” he grumbled.

Shiloh ignored him and crawled over him to lie at his side. As soon as she curled up against him, he slid an arm under her and pulled her close. Smiling softly, she stretched an arm over his ample belly and squeezed the lovehandle on that side. He shivered.

“Don’t. I’m too tired…and I have to get up early to work again.”

Even though she knew she had to stop, all she did was more her hand to rest more on his chest. She rubbed her face against his side in a silent apology.

He sighed. “Now I’m definitely not going to get up and shower…”

“Shower before work or something.”

He nodded a little. “Ok…”

“Night, Devin.”

“G’night, sweetie.”

“Love you.”

“I love you, too.”
