so, was looking for data on Air Force uniforms. had a lot more trouble than I expected. so here are my results so I can find them again..

When wearing any of the variations on service dress (service dress, shot-sleeve shirt, long-sleeve shirt, dress mess, formal dress, semi-formal - Wear undershorts and white undershirt (V-neck or athletic style) with all service and dress uniforms; the white crew-neck style undershirt is authorized only when wearing closed collar service and dress uniforms. Undershirt will be tucked into trousers.
When wearing BDUs, underwear is only marked 'mandatory', no further details.
-Women Undergarments (Mandatory): Bra and panties with all uniforms; wear other appropriate undergarments as necessary, provided they are not visible at the neck when worn with an open collar; may wear the white crew-neck style undershirt when wearing closed collar service and dress uniforms. Undershirt will be tucked into slacks or skirt.
-For both When wearing BDUs, undershirts - Brown or black. Either V-neck, U-neck, crew neck, or athletic style without pockets. Undershirt will be tucked into trousers. EXCEPTION: MAJCOM commanders may approve black, crew-neck undershirts, long-sleeved black or brown turtlenecks, dickies, or thermal undershirt without pockets. Members may wear white thermal undershirts even if exposed at neck. Installation commanders may prescribe unit designation, and cloth or silkscreen emblem to be worn on left side of chest not to exceed 5 inches in diameter.
-For both Socks: Plain without design. Plain white socks may be worn with combat boots or dress boots. Wear black socks over white socks to preclude white socks from showing. (For women: Wear hose [Commercial, sheer, nylon in neutral, dark brown, black or off-black, or dark blue shades that complement the uniform and the individual's skin tone. Do not wear patterned hose.]if not wearing socks. Wear only with slacks.)
The mess dress is optional for enlisted personnel and mandatory for officers.
Only officers wear the formal dress.
Only enlisted personnel wear the semi-formal dress.
