Noticed this on the Yahoo news section. Apparently, a historian is referencing some period legal documents as an indication of government / publically sanctioned civil unions between men.

The issue of the Jounal of Modern History that they mention in the article isn't available online yet, so I don't know how accurate a representation the news article gives of the research. But, honestly... pretty cool, if it's true.
