PSA / I hate Phishing Scammers!

Dec 10, 2010 09:27

/PSA:

Stupid "Database Maintenance" Phishing Spam.

If you get an email (ESPECIALLY from someplace that you do NOT recognize) do NOT give them your email address and password!!! ANY Email that asks you to go fill in you email address and password is usually a phishing (ie, Identity Theft!!) attack. Jerks Jerks Jerks.

Here's an example, fresh from my inbox just this morning:

* * * *
To: Potential Victim (ie, you)
From: Made up name
Subject: Database Maintenance!!

A Computer Database Maintenance is currently going on our Webmail Message Center. Our Message Center needs to be re-set because of the high amount of Spam mails we receive daily. A Quarantine Maintenance will help us prevent this everyday dilemma.

To re-validate your mailbox Please Click on the link below: ......xxxxx/xxxxx/xxxxx

Failure to re-validate your mailbox will render your e-mail in-active from our database.

Thanks

Nice. The link (which I removed from this post) takes you to a web page form that asks you for your name (Your REAL NAME!!), your email address, and your email address password. Nice.

This email throws in a little Fear, by saying something like "Failure to respond will render your email inactive in our database". In my book, that would be GOOD. But ha. No such luck, they keep throwing their phishing line into my email inbox.

Jerks.

Don't fall for this one.

for Today.
