July 14th and 15th: A strange past few days

Jul 15, 2008 19:41

The past few days have been, well, not fun isn't quite the right term, but close enough.
My visit to UNCC (for those of you who aren't familiar with the North Caroline university system, that stands for University of North Carolina at Charolette) and that was kinda dull. It was hot, we were walking, and frankly I think I like App better. True UNCC is loads closer to a city than App (read, 8 miles vs god knows how many) but the campus felt small, no creative writing it looks like, only 16 to 25 scholarships for the whole college each year, and the meal plan didn't sound appealing. Didn't get to look at the dorms either, but the International House (a dorm where there are two Americans and two foreign students in each suite) sounded interesting. The school also feels a little closer to home but probably isn't much so, a 90 minute drive versus a 2 hour drive isn't a huge difference.

Speaking of driving, last summer I volunteered at my local library but didn't want to do so this year because I just couldn't justify the spendature of gas. However, after seeing the presentation by UNCC yesterday, my mom has decided that I am going to volunteer again. She said it would help me get into college, I told her I'm already getting in and she said this would help with scholarships and the honors program. Then she said something about how things I do now can influence the rest of my life, I said that was stupid (seriously, the idea that a teenagers actions will then influence what happens to a 40 year old women is scary, if I do something stupid now I HOPE it's not stupid enough to bite me me in the rump that many years down the road). So long story short, I sent off an e-mail and will probably start helping out again soon.
Growumble, how come when I try to change the way I live, try to show that teenagers do care about the world and will change the norm for a better future, it doesn't work? Seriously, it's like me and a plan, never seems to go right.... also finished watching Vampire Knight today, dunno if I'll continue with the second season, probably yes.
Signing off.
