Whew, busy week so far, and when I'm not busy (or sometimes when I am) I have been having some bad headaches. And since some of these occur around my computer time, this is the reason why I haven't been posting. Anyway, dealing with VBS (Vacation Bible School) this week with my church, this is my fourth year of doing so and this year I am straddled with second and third graders. I have actually worked with over half of these kids in the past, the first year I did Kindergardeners and the past two years I have worked with the first graders. And those times my kids were fairly manageable, not this year however! I blame the other crew leaders (and I can hear my mom now "Do you always have to blame someone?"), but here is my reason.
This year we did not have a meeting before VBS to lay down the law and tell us what we crew leaders need to do and handle the kids.
Therefore, it was not impressed into many people's minds that they have to be very active with the kids, always doing the singing and dancing, helping out, in general, not standing on the sidelines and watching.
The person who taught me this (the former youth group leader, Francine) said that if you don't that the kids will start behaving badly on the third day and by the fourth day they will be incontrollable. Lo and behold, day three, it's not fun and it ain't pretty. The kids are starting to run wild and I can't do anything, especially since I have been dancing and interacting with them, the other teens need to help out more dangit!
Signing off, I really need to manage my time better...
