So I'm still sniffling and feeling bleh, but since I won't have time in the next few days (OMG, FIRST TWO FINALES TOMORROW!) I'm going to go ahead and do my con report now. I bet it's one of the last ones but I haven't seen a lot this year so I wouldn't know. Anyway
Thursday: Went to school for the day and the plan was for my mom to pick us up after school. We did do stuff in school, but ah, I kinda forgot what happened. Think I had a history test, if it's the one I'm thinking about it didn't turn out so well (then again, I swear the teacher has it in for me since I actually know the subject). But I do remember a conversation I had after school.
Leigh: Whatever you do, don't go into the courtyard.
Me: Why?
Leigh: Because there is a bubble fight going on.
Me: BUBBLE FIGHT?!? *grabs Leigh and runs to courtyard*
It was a very fun bubble fight, although I came in towards the end of it, something that could be called "good clean fun." After that I headed back to the library where shader and the vampire were, kicked them after they swore my bookbag ran off and then got a call from my mom that she was delayed and wouldn't be at school for half an hour.
Grand, figures, my plans never work... so there was more waiting, more weird conversations, especially once we had to go outside since the library closed early. Actually, even if we hadn't gone to the con, that would have been a good day, I so rarely have time to chat with friends like that and just have fun since we all live so far apart. It's, nice.
Once my mom got there we packed up pretty fast (she had brought my stuff and her's, shader had stored hers in the art room, Leigh in her gym locker, and AC in the front office), well actually, I should say that I grabbed everything and packed, my mom knows to just let me go at it and nobody gets yelled out. So we left at about 4:30 and the drive took until about 6, maybe a little shorter. The roads were fairly good and we didn't get lost (thank god...) and nothing major happened (except for shader and I singing 'Hakuna Matata' for the umpteenth time this week).
We stayed at the Springhill Suites since the Shearton had filled up before we were able to get a room (in January I believe) and this turned out to be a pretty nice small hotel. And it was so cool to see other cosplayers unloading, I even saw a Fai (Tsubasa: Reservior Chronicle) outfit that I recognized from the cosplay.com forums, just a little bit surreal. And here is a picture of our group:
On the far left we have Leigh, on the right with the "Come to the dark side, we have cookies" shirt is shader, the person in the middle is AC (and responsible for about half the photos I have) and that would be me in the front in my infamous blue hat.
We had dinner and then went to precon where dear God, the line must have had over 1000 people total that night. For those who have been to AZ, it streached from the back of the AA (where the Dealer's Room entrance is) to the smaller of the two lobbies, the one that was nearer to the tents. Wow, and I had heard that the pre-reg line was shorter, it wasn't until the next day that I discovered that that applied to Friday and Saturday, not pre-con night. I think I was actually in front of
natsuhiboshi, it was the right outfit in any case, but I was much too shy to ask. Reoccuring theme that weekend, I can strike up a conversation with a complete stranger, I can talk easily with people I have met before, but put me in a room with people I kinda know from the internet and I become so shy. Not entirely sure why, I just do.... but I wasn't the only one who found friends this weekend.
At one point a staff member (think it was Xav) yelled for attention and (after I had the great amusement of seeing shader unconiously snap a salute, easy to tell whose family is in the military) we were instructed to split into three lines based on last name to make the badge retriving go faster. So shader and leigh (who had just bought her badge) went into one line and AC and I ended up in another. One of the guys behind us started talking to AC and I found that he had come from her old high school and then I saw my first glomp. This girl came out of nowhere (that I could see, that line was EPICALLY long and blocked all vision) and glomped AC, another of her old friends it turned out, this one from middle school. And yet another of her friends got it on tape! I demand to see that footage someday...
After we got our tickets we just well, wandered around for a bit. Eventually we sat down in a little auditorium off to the side where someone was doing amazing guitar and someone else was singing. It looks like AC deleted the video of the singing off her camera (even though we all told her NOT to...) so I only have video of the guy doing the guitar.
here is the first one.
number two!.
If you hear anyone talking it's probably AC, these are two more of the many things I lifted from her camera.
After that we went back to the hotel, Leigh and Shader were going to go swimming, but then my mom found The Devil Wears Prada on one of the hotel channels (I think it was HBO, we don't get that at home) and so we watched that. Well, except for when I accidently unplugged the TV instead of the iron I was using to iron out my VK jacket...
And that was all for the night and I really need to get back to studying/sewing/reference sheets (all in the name of passing my finales) so I'm going to get off now. Also incase my mom finds out I was on the computer the entire time she was gone...
Signing off!
