October the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th: Haven't gotten much sleep lately

Oct 10, 2010 23:51

Wow, I just dropped off the face of the planet didn't I? Just been up late and keeping busy for the past few days, sadly my weekends are usually the busiest part of it (haven't really been able to sleep in either). So, I'll make this as sort as they can be but it's still going to be kinda long.

So, Thursday, had classes (why have almost none of my photo classmates done work on the critique for Tuesday? Seriously folks, put some more effort into your damn major!) and went to Nerd Network and saw How to Train Your Dragon again afterwords. Had to see the late show for that but it was worth it, just as cute the second time around. We got in late but I realized half way through we were sitting with other NN people anyway so it was all good, and they all loved my toothless plushie too. NN was also making plans for Halloween, apparently we're not doing a dance with the Pagan Student Association anymore (well, not co-hosting it), and trying to think of ideas. Should still be fun and I won't need to pay an entry fee since I got my membership card (yes, I have an official nerd membership card now, I'm just that awesome).

Friday I didn't have public speaking but the teacher was going to be there to help anyone with their speech outline if they needed it so I dropped by there and she liked what she saw so far (it's still rather rough). After that I ran over to the lab and almost had to fight for my enlarger (same dude as Wednesday, you know, I'm not sure he's even a Tech student), ran to Japanese, had lunch (loving this diversity series lunch thing, Cuban food is pretty darn tasty!), and then back to the dark room! After that, and all of this really is back to back, then I went to design more banners for the homecoming float and that took another couple of hours. Then back to the dorm for a breather and then I went to see lip sync/tape the NN's entry. Ours was alright, the choreography wasn't as strong as some of the other groups but we were one of the few groups not to use either Katie Perry or Lady Gaga so I think we get extra points for that (seriously, if I hear poker face one more time I will smack someone with my tripod). Couple more hours to myself (giving me time to mess with the video a little bit and I have learned my lesson, shoot in HD and save it as big as you can or it will look like crap on youtube) and then it was off to the float building. It was chilly outside (well, duh, it was at 11 and beyond and it had been a clear day) and I was there to about 2 or so painting.

Got up at 9 on Saturday (I had eventually gotten to bed around three, I was so tired it took me a little while to stop being stupid and take a shower) because I thought the homecoming parade started at 10 but it turns out it started at 10:30. I had a decent spot to shoot but my photos turned out rather crappy, too high and hard and I'm having a hard time stopping motion with this camera (which is weird because I've pulled it off with my other cameras). And our float looked a bit last minute, less banners next year and more props are in order and we didn't have quite enough people for our zombie kazoo band (plus, some sorority also did zombies which makes me got WTF, it has nothing to do with the theme, Vegas, but zombies have been a part of nerd culture for a few years so it worked for us, what were y'all thinking?). Only got a few pictures since they went by fast but they're still the only photos I've seen so far. Had lunch and then went to work. There weren't many people there and the cafeteria was by and large pretty clean actually. But apparently the game was pretty close at half time so they were expecting people to stick around and then there would be a huge rush (apparently the stadium was standing room only). That happened after I left, well, I suspect so anyway because there were just tons and tons of people at the end of the game, literally a few thousand walking down the street and it made me quite glad I wasn't working at that time (and yes we did win, just barely apparently).

Sunday I got up earlier than I wanted again while I was waiting for my dad to call since he was coming up to see me. Otherwise he's out of town during my fall break and wouldn't be able to see me until Thanksgiving and I think both of my parents want to see me more than they get a chance (both of them lived at home for the first few years of college to save costs so I imagine it's a bit strange for them). We had a quiet day together, mostly just driving through the mountains (I got to TN today! And the weather was GORGEOUS, the mountains look beautiful too) and then a small lunch. Chilled a little and then went to the lab, got some decent prints after a little bit and then I had a quick dinner and went to the zombie march. Didn't march (I really don't like fake blood so I don't want to dress up as a zombie, next year I am totally bring up my nerf gun so I can be a zombie hunter though!) but I did want to donate food to the food drive (and with that many people there, roughly a hundred, we really should've gotten more food. Between that and compared to how few zombies we had the previous day I call SHENANIGANS! Got some pictures (felt like everyone there had a DSLR though XD ). Olivia and Angela looked pretty darn awesome as zombie brides and I talked to the NN people there more about possibly doing cosplay chess for the Halloween event and we agreed that it would be better to do (since it takes so long) as it's own, smaller event sometime. Still bouncing ideas around in my head for how to pull it off but I think we could have tons of fun with it.

And that's been my past four days. Not enough sleep, plenty of nerding, and quite a bit of photo taking actually. Finally getting some use out of my camera but I really need to make time to mess with it more and get more used to it, should probably read more of the manual too. Also, been reading Inkdeath and I am liking it, need to make time for that as well. But I have all sorts of knitting to work on too and regular school projects, I foresee a conflict of interests in the very near future.
