Well, more like the awesome people I was hanging out with after nerd network (like Shaun from anime club and I was talking with another guy a lot during the club, Zach, who turns out to be his roommate. XD Zach declared that I was his new friend after he discovered that I knew about the differences between Edwardian and Victorian clothing and steampunk*). Nerd Network itself was fun, we played scatergories (with people just moving around the room) based on tastes, like mac vs pc vs linux, star wars vs star trek, that kind of stuff. Although I now really need to figure out my Halloween outfit for the Halloween dance held by the PSA**. I am attempting to talk myself out of doing one of Suu's outfits from Clover, initially I was planning on doing Carol's blue dress from Baccano! (and considering I need to make this thing in a week or so that's probably the smarter choice) but it does seem like it'll be fancy enough. HMMMMM.
But I did a lot more than that on Thursday, went to photography class and it turns out that yes I did my grey scale test wrong but my teacher pointed one of the extra photos I did and said it looked good. It was the picture I took of the TARDIS graffiti in one of the tunnels which cracked me up so much. I'm happy that picture turned out well and I fully plan on developing it when I have time/spare paper (know I have some RC paper back home SOMEWHERE) and I know at least one person who wants it too. XD Had lunch with some Buffy this time, met up with Caitlyn so she could give me her Paprika and Millennium Actress DVDs, plus her Japanese homework for Friday since she was leaving that afternoon for Dragon*Con. I jumped on a bus to get out to Walgreens to grab a lock for my art locker (apparently Walmart has no idea what I mean when I type in "combination lock" but Walgreens does). Got it, back to bus stop, read Guardian of the Dead while waiting (good thing too, would've been too windy to knit), realized there was an actual bus stop at Walgreens, and then I saw one of the steepest roads I've seen in a long while. Everyone knows at least one person who can't get to early classes in the winter because they're street doesn't get plowed/the bus can't get up it and that has to be one of them, I can't imagine someone even walking down and back up it in the winter without hurting themselves.
Had History of Photography, intially we were supposed to visit someone in the astronomy lab because they have all these
daguerrotypes but the guy had visiting physicists*** so we're going Tuesday instead. Didn't mind actually since we're learning about early photography in the wild west and my teacher was talking about some interesting guys who did a lot of photography of the Native Americans and I want to go look up more about them as well. Native American culture has always fascinated me and, especially considering my state has the highest N.A. population east of the Mississippi, there just isn't enough about them in the standard textbooks.
Off to a study group for Japanese, then nerd network, and then the usual night time routine of rotting my brains on the internet and then sleep.
Friday was much less complicated but started way earlier. Got up at seven so I could get to the Food Services office at eight so I could sign up for an appointment slot next week to see if they had any hours available that I could take. Heck, considering that the library told me to call back after labor day I'm going to still bug them then and ask some people for advice about that (since I know a few people who work at the library and they had to get hired SOMEHOW, might as well see if I can ask how). I swear, I've never had this much trouble just to drop off applications, this is just rather silly all around.
Didn't have public speaking today so I got a tripod, discovered said tripod was useless to me, and re-shot the grey scale negative test. Heck, it was early enough that I had enough time to start my laundry too and get all of that done before I got to the lab since that didn't open until 10. Processed the film and I'm still not quite sure what I did. Some of the later sections look like a proper grey scale but I'm not so sure about the rest. I logged everything and even (mentally) noted a pattern in what my light reader was saying so hopefully my teacher and I can work it all out. I can produce well metered shots by now (heck, I actually like my shots to have a lot of different grays in them, most beginning students like theirs "high and hard" by comparison, ie, just black and white). Rushed to Japanese and was weirded out by the various forms of Japanese theater (I actually knew stuff about all three kinds, Kabuki, Noh, and Bunraku, but it's really creepy to see them actually preformed) and finally grabbed lunch with Liz afterwards and we hung out for an hour. Forgot to go back to the tech building to do a critique and bummed around my room instead waiting for an email or two about knitting club stuff.
After dinner I was moping a little so I decided to see when the art museum on campus was open and lo and behold it was open then! Wandered all around there and it's bigger than I though, bit deceiving because of how twisty it is. And I'm finding that I like looking at sculpture more than most things these days (well, unless they have photography but even then I don't like very surrelistic stuff, most of that goes into the "I don't think that's art for me" category and just make me feel awkward for even looking at it, it's too personal and distant from me to make any connections and this goes for all mediums by the way).
Came back, finished reading Guardian of the Dead and I've been here pretty much ever since. Still trying to figure out what to do this weekend but I've got plenty of anime to keep me company while I work Toothless's wings.
*For the record, I found out when I was 10 or so that Queen Victoria died in 1901 and that what most people called the Victorian Era was actually the Edwardian era. I've always been a bit puzzled why so many people don't understand that.
**No, not Public Service Announcement, as cliche as it sounds it's the Pagan Student's Association's big thing they do each year.
***Which cracks me up both in the "oh god I am SO in college" moment and the "who comes up to the boonies for this stuff?!?" sort of ways.
