June the 10th and 11th: No luck on the job front

Jun 11, 2010 23:27

First off, erm, I have no idea what's going on with my lj-cuts on the review yesterday, must've forgotten some of the coding and, since my LJ got set to Italian and that includes the FAQ as well, I might not be able to fix it. So yeah, sorry about that.
Back to today/yesterday, no luck on the job front, 10,000 villages is actually all volunteer work and the UNCG library only takes students who go to school there and will be there in the fall. Makes sense I suppose, but thought it was worth a shot since I'm in the system and I have actual library experience (+two summers of volunteering in a bookstore). Trying to figure out if working in a non-profit bookstore for two summers counts as retail experience. I think most people mean clothing stores, not bookstores, when they say retail and a paying job, not volunteer work. My dad says it counts but my dad, eehhhhhhhhh, the way he views business doesn't always match up with the way society does. No idea why not, it can't be a good thing, maybe it's all the Swedish influences. It just doesn't feel correct to put down, but I have no qualms saying I have customer service experience, at least half my time in the library was helping people and I say that 15+hours a week of helping people is customer service (and probably stranger people than you'd get in most retail, can't say the same for fast food though).
So now I'm starting to think about where I want to volunteer for the summer and it's really depressing. On Monday I will call Food Services at school to see when I should apply there and I hope I get a job for the school year. As it stands, I'm not letting myself buy ANYTHING this summer and a summer with absolutely no new books (except with trade credit at Ed McKay's I suppose) or fabric? Um yeah, I have no idea how well that will work out, can it be August yet?
What else, FullMetal Alchemist ended yesterday (for me since that's when the scanlations came out) and I really liked the ending (and will probably end up crying during the anime's ending). Don't want to say much else but aaaaaaawwwwwww!
Other than that, it's been calm. Was cooler earlier in the week but it's warming up again. I like having my windows open but smoke from either Ted or the neighbors smoking blows in sometimes (really annoyed about the neighbors too, Ted used to smoke on the front porch but our neighbor came over and asked if he could do it somewhere else since it kept blowing into her house, BUT SOMEONE'S SMOKING ALMOST 24/7 AT HER HOUSE. *headdesk* If it gets bad I should go over and talk to them, mention that it's been annoying for 7 years too...). Signing off, will get a little more work done on the con report (since I know I'm not sleeping tonight anyway, another good thing about college, I never sleep well at my dad's house and getting one day a week to sleep in/get a full night's rest back in high school was killing me).

volunteer, full metal alchemist, books, job hunting, money issues, sleeping, smoking, fabric shopping, library
