March the 3rd and 4th: Getting there...

Mar 06, 2010 23:24

Slowly catching up here, thankfully I don't have much to post anyway, but I usually find a lot to blog in just one day, hate getting behind like this.
So, Wednesday was Japanese and Politics, and I must say that I'm of mixed feelings of politics these days. On the one hand, I still love to know how and why people think and act, and I love to debate the reasons behind this. But, since I have no one I can hold a calm conversations with (jeeze, posted a link on my FB page on Thursday which was saying what the GOP's 72 page plan for gathering the next year was, lots of fear mongering in it, and Olivia COMPLETELY flipped out, seriously, it sounded so, juvenile that Cross couldn't tell if she was serious or not). I don't expect many of you guys to agree with my thoughts, hell, I don't expect anyone to agree with me before, I've developed this "I will stand my ground and go down fighting" mentality since it feels like I know no moderates these days, but I wish they would give REASONS. Don't just say "thats coz we never had a reason to HAV tea parties till Obama showed up. *spits* he rly set himself up for all the anger he's recieving and I find it hard to sympathize with him because the ppl who are angry have reason to be, myself included. " give REASONS, cold hard FACTS that would support your case! And use proper grammar to, I reserve the right to mock those who sound like five year olds on the internet (no offense to any kindergardeners I know). So, without anyone whom I can talk to (really should see if I could track down the philosophy club) I find it harder to care about politics. Plus, out of the way without a real news connection (sure I have access but without motivation to look up the news, again I don't try) and my class is so early American history politics. And I'm so bored by memorizing which amendment does what and which supreme court case says what, it makes me get very (mentally) sarcastic in class and I know that just doesn't end well.
Thursday was, thankfully, more interesting. My Society and Tech teacher showed us this really cool video on youtube called "Oil Storm." The story behind it goes, in 2004 someone wrote a screenplay of sorts that was set if a category 5 hurricane hit a major refinery outside of New Orleans and what would happen. It was set to start on September 2 and played out through December at least as if it was a real world documentary explaining just how oil prices became so high. It was shown, as far as my teacher knows, just once in June 2005. Come a few months later he shows the VHS of it he taped to his class (and apparently he thought his was low quality but the one on youtube where I had to start reading the German subtitles when the audio got bad was much worse) just days before Katrina. It was cool since it did seem to parallel Katrina quite a bit. There's more on it on the wiki page and I'll be sure to tell him after break that it seems you can get it on DVD now, someone on IMDB seems to have found away.
Anyway, nothing like semi-forbidden material to spice up a day. And I was denied my class on the counterculture (which I also think of a class with semi-forbidden, or at least non-mainstream, material) and I do wish the teacher would send out emails every time she cancels class. And that she would do it less often, aren't we three weeks behind now?
And that's all I can get to now, signing off, hopefully I'll catch up tomorrow.

the counterculture, idiots, american government and politics, poltics, society and technology, friends
