November the 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st: Um, hi?

Dec 19, 2009 21:23

Okay, WOW, sorry for not posting here in just about a month. Between the last half of NaNo (which I did finish with 51,000 words!), Thanksgiving break, a certain knitting project, and then exams I got a little out of my schedual and forgot to post. So I guess I'll just jump back in.

So on the morning of the 17th (think it wasn't still the 16th) Olivia and I actually went outside to see the metor shower but without much luck. It was chillier than both of us had been expecting ("nonconsenual snuggling!") and it was cloudy enough that the stars were a bit hard to see. Plus, even if campus is way out in the country, we have so many "anti-rape lights) that seeing the stars at all can be tricky unless you know where to look. Olivia saw one or two but I wasn't looking at the right area of the sky so I didn't see any and we gave up around 1, 1:30-ish.
I had been planning to skip English that morning but, since I realized I only had two skip classes not three (and had already used on that one time the girls were super noisy at two in the morning) I went anyway. And I was really perky for only 5 hours worth of sleep. No idea how but I was and just ended up going with it. Not much else happened Tuesday except that anime club was canceled due to Kwanza. Yeah, we just got kicked out of our room by a holiday that was a month early, dunno if that is better than or worse than the time the Peace Corp took over. And the annoying thing was that the officers hadn't known either (usually they'll tell us before hand or will send out an email as soon as they find out) so we were hanging out in the student union for a bit chilling and chatting, especially since next week was Thanksgiving and weren't going to have a meeting then either.
Wednesday was a boring day since I can't remember anything a month later. Thursday I do remember however, even if it was just for the trouble my computer gave me. That morning I was supposed to register for classes and, since I was worried about some of them filling up fast, I brought my laptop with me and set it up at the beginning of class so I could take notes and pop in the class codes.
I took my computer OVER AN HOUR to find the internet in there (way longer than anyone elses' computer) and I had pretty much given up on it when I checked again at the end of the class and then got four out of my five classes. I have Back and White Photography (so I'm using my dad's old 35mm camera), Society and Technology, the Counterculture (my freshman seminar), Japanese 1040, and then American Political Science (which was like, my third alternative but should be super easy, this is stuff I can do in my sleep). Pretty good all in all but I really need three or four classes this fall for my gen ed/major so I foresee registering as soon as I can and then playing the add/drop waiting game.
I also remember Thursday cause it was the night of my first concert! And I shall be blunt, concerts don't appear to be my thing. Not surprising since it is a pretty loud, fan oriented, and long event but at least people can stop giving me funny looks when I say I haven't been to one before. Once again, it was Anberlin opening for the All America Rejects and Taking Back Sunday (and I was tickled to see that the head of that group was from my town since the title of the band made total sense in that context XD). The concert started around 8 and Olivia and I left right before the encores started so I guess it was about three hours or so? A LOUD three hours, we started out saying, if we need earplugs we'll get them, and then when the music started, DEAR GOD we needed them! All three of the bands were pretty good music wise and we got called APPles by one group and had Boone described as "If Caribou Coffee had a child," (which is probably the nicest description of the town you can come up with). And afterwards Olivia and I had a good giggle since we were both pretty chilly walking back to the dorm (the temperature had really gone down once the sun did) and were complaining about to each other. And suddenly we see a normally dressed guy walking down the street with a hoochie mama whose dress did not cover her entire ass. We kinda shut up, walk past, 20 feet later, burst into giggles/DID you see the length of her skirt?!?! comments.
Friday I can't remember if I saw District 9 then or later, ah I remember, I saw the Seven Samurai with the Japanese Culture Club! I was running late for some reason so I had to bolt across campus, it had already started once I got there and I just saw someone waving at me so I kinda found the group, and I was hoping it wasn't terribly long since I kinda had to use the bathroom. Boy I missed the announcement that said "This is a 3.5/4 hour movie" and was worried when I saw the Intermission sign pop up two hours in along with the "switch disc" command. Hurried off to the bathroom then (of course it's on the OTHER SIDE OF THE BUILDING, this student union wasn't built that smartly now that I think about it) and didn't miss too much of the movie. It was a pretty good movie and even if I wish it wasn't so long I don't really know what could've been cut out. Joe, Richard, and Chynna saw it (they liked it, she didn't) and Joe and I are waiting to see how the remake in 2011 is gonna look.
Saturday must've been normal since I don't remember anything about it, just the general waiting for school to be over for Thanksgiving. So I think that's enough for one go, signing off!

anberlin, college, taking back sunday, seven samurai, all american rejects, band, registration, anime club, star gazing, movie, cold, computer issues, nano, japanese culture club, awkward clothing, school, english, concert
