July the 10, 11, and 12: Friend time!

Jul 14, 2009 20:40

Well the tenth was shader's 18th birthday so I wished her happy birthday and had a bit of a chat with her. She's been feeling down lately so I invited her to come with me to the Animania event on Sunday.
But before all of that there was work. I had been told that Friday's were pretty crazy but it didn't seem that bad to me. There was one or two "waves of neediness" where everyone who came up to the front desk also had another problem. Lordy, I can only help people check out, can't make new cards or look up library card numbers! But the patrons seemed happy that I was at least going over and doing what I can, reassuring them that they are being looked after and will be helped. It's a bit of a need library like that. For example, we have three check out stations, all at the front desk. Each one is set up so that people can check out on their own, but few people do. True I do run into a number of people who haven't done it before, but some people just like the librarians to do it anyway. Also, we have a wall of books on hold and people can go back there and pick them up. I run into a number of people who don't know they can go back there and they look startled when I tell them to go over, find their last name and their books. Maybe they haven't seen a library like that before (my library in Cleveland was like that, probably because they both are smaller branch libraries with smaller staffs) but some of the people just feel snobby about it.
Anyway, also went to the knitting group thing. It was rather nice to go, I learned a new way to cast one (long tail?) and everyone has assured me that knitting in the round is easy. If you say so, I'm going to try and get a round needle before the next time so I can try it out then, also having a hard time finding knitting projects that aren't done in the round and I don't really feel like doing another scarf.
I actually had a hard time finding stuff to keep me occupied on the 11th, I'd just gotten so used to being at work all day, that's kinda sad...
On the 12th my mom drove us, Sam came along as well, all the way to shader's class and then over to the mall where Animania was. Man that is a biiiigggg mall, and we parked at the opposite end of F.Y.E. to start with. Then again, if we hadn't parked there shader and I wouldn't have seen thhe buy two get one free sign that seemed to be adverstising boobs. She was laughing so hard that she was leaning on me as we walked away, lol, we're such kids at times...
So we got to F.Y.E. a little too early and had planned on leaving too early. At least I'm consistent, I had realized that trivia would go on so long, god that was fun! Our group (Team Blob!) got a ton of questions that shader knew ("Their all girls, how would I know they recognized Special Beam Cannon?!?"). We didn't win in the end but it was all fun, and everyone got free swag because the swag box was overflowing. I snagged a copy of Shojo Beat (wohoo, it had a poster) and shader grabbed a L saves the World poster, she's a huge L fangirl.
The only problem was that I was hanging out with shader the entire time so I couldn't really hang out with my AZ peeps, actually, it's been equally long since I had seen any of them in person. Hmm, maybe I should get shader to join the forums so she can hang out as well...
Signing off!
