April the 3: "You can't socially do crack!"

A good line from my English class the other day, I can't quite remember how we got on the topic of drugs (it had absolutely nothing to do with "The Death of Ivan Ilyich"), but my class has so much better discussions that are related to today's world rather than what we read. My english teacher doesn't quite seem to get how high schoolers haven't read nearly half the things she thinks they should so we are completely bored by the stories. But I shall admit, after this last story I'm starting to get some of the transcendental ideas, like the one of "living a life of quiet desperation." That makes so many of the stories make so much sense and, while I at first couldn't see how that connected to my life, I do believe my homeroom teacher is living a life of quite desperation. I mean, I don't get the actions of the characters in these stories, I don't get her, it makes perfect sense!
Ahem, other than that, today was very windy. Windy enough that I was glad to be wearing my newsboy hat when doing my weekly mall trot. It also was very sunny and I had just been watching a video on the Great Depression in Econ (Herr Ducky and I agree, they, meaning the world in general, tend to romanticize this period too much) and I have decided that I don't really like FDR. I mean, he did make a lot of great programs and went to a lot of trouble to implement them, but in some ways he still stayed within the conventional barriers of the time. Of course that's more of societies blame than his, if I remember American History right he was met with a lot of opposition of the program he did start (the New Deal is unconstitutional, um WTF?). Back to the bookstore thing, I finally finished reading The Wizard Heir so now I can finally start in The Dragon Heir (which I actually picked up at a good price at the used bookstore a while back so I have been resisting temptation to read, I think this is the longest I have gone not reading a book I own unless my grandmother gave it to me, she doesn't know my tastes).
Let's see, the only other thing I am doing is finally using my anime-planet account to catalogue all of the anime I have ever watched/want to watch/ect. And listening to Nimrods, thank you shader for lending it to me!
Signing off!
