*takes a deep breath and gets prepared to be run out of town on a rail*
Diana Gabaldon's Outlander needed to be over a long time ago. It was fun and I was able to suspend my disbelief about Claire time-travelling the first time. Then she went back to the present time, and it all seemed like a dream. Fine. After Frank died, she wanted to find her true love and was willing to risk travelling in time again, which I could still handwave away. But then once everyone started jumping back and forth without any sort of rhyme or reason I was done, plus I gave very few shits about Bree and Roger. I haven't read any of the Lord John books, and don't particularly care to, even though you'd think I would enjoy them.
It's easy to say that I would love it if the Harry Potter books went on for forever, but I'm glad they ended where they did. They wrapped up where they needed to and I guarantee that if they went on I'd be saying the same things about them that I did about Outlander.
Day 02 - A book or series you wish more people were reading and talking about.
Can I just say that I loved Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell? I loved that book. And I am so thankful that
willow_wand recommended it to me!
Day 03 - The best book you've read in the last 12 months
I know that everyone really liked Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, which I ... well, I liked, but I think my expectations were SO HIGH because of all of the buzz around it, that I think I was expecting more. Even though I thought there was a wonderful horribleness about it, I wasn't as impressed as I was by her earlier book, Sharp Objects. That was probably the darkest book I've ever read in my life and I loved it. It was just twisted enough that I didn't see it coming...
Day 04 - Your favourite book or series ever
My favorite book of all time is probably To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I read it over and over again. I haven't read it in a while, actually, and should. *makes a note*
(Series-wise, I have several that I love, but it has to go to Harry Potter for the friendships I have gained because of it.)
Day 05 - A book or series you hate
Oh, oh, oh! I know! I had to think about this, because if I don't like a book I generally put it down, but this particular book I kept reading on and on because I thought surely there would be something that would redeem it for me, but nope. Nothing. I hated Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld. I understand that I'm supposed to feel something for the main character, but in the end, the only think I felt for her was derision. I know, I know, that's not very nice, but that was an entire book of first world problem that I couldn't be arsed about. FWIW, I didn't like The Catcher in the Rye, either.
