Poi-gression and other things
Hahah! While still not quite mastering the shoulder reels behind my head, I have managed the hip reel with my right hand behind me and in front of me!
And also attempted the three-beat, and actually managed seven straight weaves! Whee-hee!
In other somewhat related news, Apex Poi Courses phoned me earlier today to let me know that there were places in their September Beginner's course. I'm sending them a cheque tomorrow to secure my place.
This is significant because with all the other current difficulties in my academic and domestic life, the poi course was one of the 'future' things. The list is as follows:
Past things i.e. Things to Try and Maintain:
Keeping head down and working stupidly hard to try and understand MA Film Studies theory depiste innate nature telling me it's all bollocks and hopefully earn MA by next year
Future things:
Apex Poi Course
Empire work experience
Film Journalism distance course with the BFI
Withdrawing from MA and getting more work experience
Getting a proper job to help support new marriage
Learn to drive
Save money to apply for the MA Creative Writing at Southampton, which includes Screenwriting as well as core workshop sessions
And I'm thinking maybe something as small as getting a place on the poi course is God telling me that it's okay to start something new. And that maybe it's okay to consider withdrawing from the MA I worked so hard at if it means that my soul is happier, and my relationship with Nick is better, and I give myself newer and better chances.
That maybe it's a sign of strength to admit defeat and carry on somewhere else.
