I wasn't sleeping next to it so much as it was sleeping next to me. I was just sleeping outside as usual and it apparently thought I could use its company.

True. But I also startled Sakura the first time she woke up around me. We all know how that ended, though. ^_^

..Did the rabbit do anything particularly violent to you?

No, but it did try to bite me. It whined, too, or something that sounded like whining...it was rather loud, come to think of it.
