an alternate life

What I love about my new layout is that it evokes a sense of an alternate life for me. I open my browser, and voila! I'm looking out a balcony to a row of apartments across the street.

Somewhere in Spain, or Italy, or France, or England, or the Netherlands. Sipping coffee from a glass, brewed on a stovetop. Where I read and write and listen to music. The bathroom is small, the kitchen and bedrooms cramped, and shelves are crammed with books and things. Where, if I'm hungry, I can step out and round the corner to some hole in the wall that serves good bread and hot soup. Oh, I'll be with E of course, and our kids. We'll ride a bike sometimes or take a long walk. (Of course, this charmed life is a mashed up version of movies I've seen and books I've read. With a dash of personal experience.)

Yup, all that from a picture (serendipitously snagged from woven ). Isn't that quite lame? It's nice to imagine a different kind of life sometimes.

Meanwhile, I'm doing my accounts, feeling rushed and quite paralyzed in my writing, and thoroughly distracted by the raucous hilarity from the kids in the next room.

(It's nice to imagine a different kind of life sometimes.)
