[Long ago in a distant, he had been sent into the future by a shapeshifting master of darkness. In a world ravaged by the shadowy being's rule and unspeakable evil, he had wandered, seeking to vanquish the demon and return to the past. And so, the warrior fought many battles against enemies great and small, strange and powerful, even the very ( Read more... )

[ In Lightning's opinion, it's so intensely cold outside that... staying inside while it lasts? That sounds like a pretty good idea, especially since that would mean she could fully utilize the wide variety of blankets she's been collecting in her time here. On the other hand, even a single day spent without exercise is a sure recipe for quickly driving her out of her mind, and the journals just aren't enough entertainment by themselves to even come close to making her stay put. No, this pink-haired young fighter is definitely going out anyway, bundled up but ready to run, her gunblade holstered behind her in preparation for visiting the 'battle dome' at some point later.

And though she lives in the apartment that's literally right next to "Jack's," she's pretty sure she's never seen this particular, rather battle-worn-looking man before. Therefore, although she generally keeps to herself most of the time, she also can't help but feel a bit of curiosity as she follows him down the stairs and out the door at a distance, silent save for the sound of footsteps. ]

[The winter air was a refreshing change of season for the warrior. Even though it brought some of his old wounds to ache, it meant the coming of the white snow. He walked down the stairs all but oblivious to the woman following him. He hummed a quiet tune under his breath, listening to the crunch of snow beneath his feet. It was when he heard a second set of steps that his senses rose out of their respite. Perhaps it was nothing, he thought to himself as he continued onward. However, his alertness did not fade and he felt an age-old readiness fill him once more.]

[ Lightning has just... never seen a person who looks like that- as far as she's concerned, there's no reason to ever not keep up a "nice" appearance if it can be helped; where's she from, even soldiers are always extremely well-groomed unless in the middle of something gone awry. She doubts he just got done with a battle inside the community building, so what is it? Is he unstable?

However, she knows better than to keep up something that could be mistaken as sneaking up on someone without cause- even if she knows she's being far from secretive, and figures just about anyone would be able to tell the same. Especially a man carrying a weapon.

But then again? She now kind of wants to keep an eye on him too. Conflicted, she frowns and stares at his back, her mind working furiously... and it's then that she recognizes him. They've never talked or probably even made eye contact before, but she has seen a person very similar to this, maybe once or twice back in the building or the surrounding area.

She has to know now. She just has to. ]

... Hey.

Hmm? [He drew to a halt, the one following him finally wanting to make herself known. Jack slowly turned to face her, not reaching for the hilt of the blade at his side nor showing any sign of anger or annoyance. Instead, his expression is very neutral, while his eyes observe her like a warrior before a potential duel.] Yes?

[ Those footsteps come to an abrupt stop and she blinks at him, clearly looking him over now that she's got a better view. He's like... something out of an old story is what she thinks then, though her expression doesn't change either.

She's not looking for a fight, and so she's careful with her demeanor, making sure she stays open, professional... but also a bit wary. It would only take an instant to pull her gunblade out, even if she keeps her hand away from it. ]

I don't think I've seen you before... do you live there?

[ She indicates the community building with a small turn of her head. ]

Hmm? Yes, I do. The fourteenth room, in fact. [He quickly remembered his manners and bowed to her.] They call me Jack.

[ Well that's certainly interesting- she might have guessed he'd answer in that way, but wasn't really expecting it. Confused, she inclines her head slightly in introduction. ]

Lightning. I'm from number 13.

Ahh, so the apartment next to mine! Do forgive me, I have not had much time to meet everyone else dwelling on the third floor. The past few weeks have been rather trying...Lightning, was it? [He paused, mulling over the name in his head.] A rather interesting name. Was it the one you were born with or did you acquire it along the way?
[The samurai of all people knew about acquiring names later in life.]

... The latter.

[ Said smoothly, even if it does bother her a little. She's not quite sure what to make of 'Jack' so far... though with any luck he'll know better than to dig any further than that. Most people don't even bother to wonder about the name aloud-- at least not to her face. ]
