So in three weeks I went from having never sat behind the controls to flying solo out in the great wide somewhere (aka, the practice area). The program is intense, but good. The next TBS company picks up next week and we all have slots available to us there, but we have to finish flying first. The deadline is Sunday, I have three flights left and it looks like there's a storm moving this way. No flying in bad weather, so it looks like it will be a photo finish.
I, literally, spend all day, every day, at the airport. It's not bad, there are always three or four of us hanging around so we joke and play and help each other with the paperwork. With the exception of one, we all get along pretty well.
A couple of days ago we got back early, so I nabbed my roommate and called a couple of the guys and we went out to run the Endurance Course. Holy frickin' shnikies! That sucker kicked my ass! It's not horrible, but there are lots of hills, my major running weakness. It's just over five miles long with a bunch of obstacles in the last 2-3 miles. When it's timed, you have to run it wearing all your gear, but I don't have any issued yet, so I just ran in boots and utes (the cammie trousers and green skivie shirt). As I'm slower than the guys, they were running all over the place, joking and having a good time. The trail is narrow and the leaves were all changing colors. For all it's pain, it was beautiful. Until the sun went down and we were running over major roots and rocks in the dark...
Anyway, I'm not terribly creative, so I don't have the ability to describe much else right now. I'm taking a break from my weights and balances/navigation log paperwork for tonight's flight but I really should get back to it. The head flight instructor gets VERY upset if you don't have your paperwork ready to go when it's your turn to fly...
