What a weird, wonderful trip. This was my first experience with military travel, and honestly, I had a great time. I had a physical in Pensacola and with the exception of one test (which came at an unfortunate time of the month so I have to retake it next week) I'm good to go. I was all set up for an EKG, but the machine only works if your resting heart rate is 60 or above. Mine was 52. So I'm all hooked up with electro-stickies and wires all over my chest and had to do flutter kicks until my heart rate picked up and then stabilized. That was slightly awkward. Especially since I ended up sitting next to the guy who administered the test at dinner...
Hanging out with the guys and the LCpl who was babysitting us was hysterical. We went out for dinner, beers, bowling and the Naval Aviation Museum in between various appointments. They're a little intense, but that's not a bad thing. And it's been a while since I've hung out with a bunch of guys. I stopped hanging out with the TKD boys in more recent years, and, instead, spent a lot of time with the TKD girls. There are a lot of guys at work who've suggested hanging out, but it's hard to tell which are the crazy stagehands and which are just a little off center, so I avoid most of those situations. It was good to run with the pack again.
But it suddenly occurs to me I haven't stated why I needed the physical...I've applied for and been granted a military flight contract. Thus far, I've met all their requirements and am taking it one step at a time. Next step is a mini-OCS weekend. Or a hike up Half Dome. They have yet to schedule the hike, so it could come before mini-OCS.
