Movie-thon

So this past weekend I went to see "The Golden Compass", "Juno", and "P.S. I Love You"

I was a little disappointed in Juno since I thought it was going to be laugh out loud funny, but really it was just a quirky 'feel good' kind of movie. I liked it, but I was hoping for more humor. At any rate Ellen Page really made that movie, I think she'll go on to do some awesome movies. On the other hand I was completely surprised at how much I like both The Golden Compass and P.S. I Love You.

The Golden Compass is most definitely NOT a children's movie like I had expected, and much more geared to teens and young adults. I can't say enough about how awesome the special effects were. It really looked like a polar bear was standing there talking to the little girl! The acting was very well done by all the actors especially for all the green screen work they had to do. And now the movie has gotten me interested enough that I might (if I can find the time) check out the books since I think the premise of the story is interesting. Hope the sequel gets made.

P.S. I Love You was also quite a surprise because I thought it'd be your ordinary chick-flick with a few chuckles and a cheesy romantic storyline. But I found myself cracking up quite a few times because the humor scenes have a bit of truth to them and the romantic storyline has a little twist to it that makes it feel less cheesy. The only thing that bugged me was Harry Connick Jr.'s character. I usually like him, but in this movie his scenes were just way too uncomfortable. I know that's how his character was supposed to be, but it just came across as weird most of the time instead of humorous.

p.s. i love you, movies, juno, opinion, review, the golden compass
