Chain of Events

Isn't it funny how one thing leads to another? Through a long, mysterious, unusual chain of events I landed on Brett Dennen's myspace page today and instantly fell in love with his music! He's like Damien Rice meets Jack Johnson with a flair of his own. It is very relaxing happy music, but definitely not 'fluff' by any means. And it's good for cleaning the house (which is what I've been doing today).

I watched Little Miss Sunshine last night and it was VERY good. Loved the quirky humor!
I also rented Out of Africa which I've meant to watch about a 1,000 times, but never got around to renting.
And since Girl, Interrupted was out ot stock yet again(!), I picked up The Proposition an Australian Western staring Guy Pearce and several others, including my personal favorite LOTR hottie Faramir - erm - David Wenham! The guy at the check out counter said it was one of the VERY best movies he saw in 2006, so I'm looking forward to it!

On the TV front, I haven't been watching that much. Though I still love my Thursday 'guilty pleasures' Ugly Betty & Grey's Anatomy. And, I confess... I watched the over-hyped return of LOST and wasn't impressed. *yawn* The cliff hanger on Grey's Anatomy was 10x better, if that tells you anything. So now I'm done with it for good. Also, I know I keep saying this, but ONE of these days I'm going to get around to downloading and watching Heroes because it's the only show I continuously keep hearing good things about.

Monday at work we took kind of a 'field trip' on to watch the movie Blood Diamond because it partially deals with child soldiers. And let me tell you, I was never a big fan of diamonds before, but now I don't think I'll ever look at them the same way again. The things that are done in the name of a beautiful stone makes my stomach turn. And what's worse is they directly involve these children by 'recruiting' them to their troops - special lightweight weapons and all. :(

So, recently I've been teeter-tottering on going back to school *for real* this time. My work as a fundraiser has made me want to get involved just that much more. I still want to travel and volunteer, but I can't help but want to do even more! I would love to work for organizations like UNICEF, Save the Children, or CARE. Maybe I'll even start up my own non-profit some day. But right now I'm lacking in anything resembling a real education. Most big organizations require at least a Bachelor's degree, if not a Master's to work for them. I'm getting ahead of myself though, if/when I do go back to school, it probably won't be for at least a year because I still want to go to Central & South America first.
