No union between persons of the same sex shall be recognized by this state as entitled to the benefits of marriage. That's part of the text of the amendment reinstated here in Georgia. In case you don't see what's so terrible about that line, consider this: Rights of survivorship and inheritance are benefits of marriage.
So you think you have all your legal ducks in a row with your powers-of-attorney and wills? But if you die and your family decides to contest your will, all they have to do is say is that the contracts confer the benefits of marriage on your same sex partner and that's it. You lose. They get it all. Your partner, who has no legal relationship to you at all, is out on the street, just like that. Just wait. It is only a matter of time before the first case comes up.
You see now why it matters?
Get off your asses, vote in the primary, and don't waste time crossing over to vote in the republican primary. You won't make a difference there.
This is a Primary to select party nominees. You must vote for all Democrats or all Republicans. You cannot split your votes between the two parties like you would do in a general election.
There will not be enough cross-over to influence the decision in the Lt. Governor's race.
If you vote in the Republican Primary, you cannot vote in the runoffs for Democratic candidates. Several races could result in a runoff. Voting in the Republican Primary will not help elect GLBT-friendly candidates.
Since most of you are too busy drinking, trying to get laid, and watching porn to know what's really going on, I'll just tell you for whom you should vote. Why should you listen to me? Because I am paying attention and I actually have your best interests in heart. (Hell they're my interests too.)
