Inspired by a sappy movie I was watching today, I decided today was a good day to do a first post of the year.
Martin, T and I had a uneventful Christmas holiday. We hosted Hubble, the guide dog of our friend Raman. In a unexpected development, Raman went off to India for a month to get married. As Hubble's normal vacation family was out of town, Raman asked us to take care of her. She's pretty well trained and patient with children so we had no major problems. The biggest problem we had was that we had to make sure to let her out and feed her at the appropriate times.
I kinda sorta looking for a job. What I mean by this is, if I see something interesting, I'll send in a resume. The way I see it, If you're really looking for a job, you have to treat it like job. I'm not.
My last job interview was at a smallish company in downtown Palo Alto. When I signed in, their machine also took my picture and then asked me to insert a driver's license. eh? The receptionist told me I could ignore that part, thank goodness. They also took a normal picture so they could stick on my resume later, not a bad idea, although I wonder what a ligtation-minded employment lawyer would say.
Tristan has been enjoying new toys from Christmas. From Canada, the boy-equivalent of a dollhouse arrived, a pirate ship complete with a cannon and parrot. My mom sent a train that's really a set of stacking blocks (poles that you put different shapes on). Ang gave Tristan a set of animal flash cards which T loves spreading all the over the floor making a huge mess. He loves making mess.
I went last week to IKEA and got a cheap train set for T, which he's been playing with every day since. He doesn't quite get the magnets though, so I often have to put the train together for him. But, oh boy, the ramps, he loves the ramps.
My husband still needs to work on his gift giving expertise. He pawned his company's Christmas bonus off on me so I now have a Google unlocked Android Dream phone. I don't really have much use for it since I already have a iPhone that plays Tristan's favorite game, Preschool Adventure, which Tristan loves so much he asks to use my phone often. I don't see Martin using the Android phone -- he's a phone minimalist.
Tristan's first shape word is "ball". If he goes to the fridge and asks for a ball, he wants an egg. One word fits all.
