"Whoajesus, look how fucked up he is now..." I KNOW! I seriously wonder whether the writers re-read their scripts before they did their promo tours!!! Or if they watched JC in filming... because... just... wow.
I'm still somewhat convinced that their intention was for Alex's behaviour to highlight Mark as the saviour, but JC's acting totally undid them on that front. As I said to slybrunette, he utterly and completely sold terrified, messed up, unravelling Alex, imo.
But- Mark doesn't know any of his backstory. I disagree. Mark would absolutely know most of his (relevant) backstory. He played a significant role in the 'diagnosing' of Rebecca's hysterical pregnancy. He was at the Alex/Izzie wedding. And the rumour train at Seattle Grace is the most effective I've ever come across! I'd find it hard to believe he doesn't have at least SOME clue of his backstory re. his mother/family... Meredith knows, Derek knows, Addison knows, Callie knows, Lexie knows... Mark definitely knows...
To me, this was just Mark moving from 'pissy little bitch' mode into 'self-serving, pissy little bitch mode'. His comment was as helpful to Lexie as anything Alex was doing... it was unneccessary and immature and only highlighted his significant flaws.
Not to mention the fact that his comment was FALSE.
And Mark only cares about Mark and how painting Alex as the bad guy only ups his chances of getting what he wants. Otherwise he wouldn't be trying to put down a guy she's not even together with anymore while she is still in the room...
Answer... No! Haha. Actually, may I clarify? HELL NO! But only because I don't think they can be a happy, functional couple. It would be way too much of a jump from where they are now, even from where they were in the finale, to happy and functional.
As I said to slybrunette, he utterly and completely sold terrified, messed up, unravelling Alex, imo.
Agreed. And I don't think Mark was meant to look like 'the savior', but actually I think Mark looked just as messed up. I think *all* of them are still fucked up, some more than others, but I think especially Alex, Mark and Lexie are all on the side of *Still Don't Know How To Deal With It* (whereas Callie, Arizona, Teddy, Owen, Richard and *possibly* Cristina are moving towards Moving On).
And...put that way, you're right. Seattle Grace's rumor mill definitely lets everyone know the bullet points of everyone's business. So Mark knows Alex's backstory. But...I don't think any of that is in the forefront of his mind, especially where Lexie is concerned. Mark is not going to be kind, or considerate towards Alex (and I don't feel like he should have to be....*ducks*).
His comment was as helpful to Lexie as anything Alex was doing...
What comment? "Walk away, you're good at that"?
LOL, you and I are going to be agreeing to disagree a lot this year :)
LOL, you and I are going to be agreeing to disagree a lot this year :) Haha! Yup! But that's half the fun! Especially when it's done in an articulate and considered way!
Mark is not going to be kind, or considerate towards Alex (and I don't feel like he should have to be....*ducks*). Oh, absolutely. I don't think he should have to be either (no need to duck!). BUT, him being a bitch to Alex does NOTHING to help Lexie, and, in fact, it probably only makes matters worse because Alex will withdraw even more completely into his ass-hole shell and the things that they DO need to discuss will forever remain unsaid...
Mark being a bitch is for Mark and Mark alone... it has nothing to do with trying to protect Lexie and if he thinks that it does, then it only serves to highlight the fact that he's clueless!!!
Alex wasn't a bitch to Mark while he and Lexie were together despite the fact that Mark treated her pretty badly/stupidly.
The whole thing just makes Mark look even MORE immature, and really? He doesn't need any help with that!
ETA a response to your first part: This post was definitely not me trying to say look how much more fucked up Alex is than everyone else... (and I hope I got that across in my disclaimer!). It was simply my protest at Alex's lack of presence in the premiere, and a tribute to JC for the fact that he was able to use the 2.5 seconds of meaningful screentime he was given to portray all of... *gestures wildly to post and comments*... THIS!
I recognise the issues that the other characters are facing, I just simply don't really care about them! And I'm not shy in admitting that!
LOL, and see I felt like the screentime was pretty fairly distributed as far as showing where everyone is, post- That Day. (Maybe Meredith and Derek got a *little* bit more, but it is what it is.) But yeah, JC knocks it out of the park, every time. (Though I'd give Chyler Leigh the gameball for this week's MVP, just saying.)
That's why I made the point of saying MEANINGFUL screentime... because 99.9% of what Alex got was actually a means to an end for someone else...(imo, of course! And do I need to restate my absolute lack of interest in everyone else?!! Haha!)
His counselling session? That was all about Mark and Lexie.
His gloating about being cleared? That was all about Cristina and Meredith.
The Clinic? Lexie, mostly.
The meaningful stuff? At the end with Lexie and the one sentence he got with Teddy. And then the other two moments that stood out for me were his 'look' in The Ridiculously Contrived Group Therapy Session From Hell when Lexie started babbling and, similarly, the camera pan across his face when Lexie made the psych. joke (both of which were scenes about someone else but were times in which he was right there with his guard momentarily down...)...
Yeah, I also think CL was great this ep. But, she was also given the time and the material to work with! SO did a bang up job of helping the writers ruin Cristina and EP was blah. They were the main three? Yes?

Sigh, Chyler was so pretty as a blonde. Why can't she be blonde forever?
ETA: Never mind my ridiculousness! EP=Ellen Pompeo. Who am I?
I posted my own thoughts. LOL.

And I'm gonna return your sigh because yes, blonde Lexie was sooooo pretty...
