Why do I have a feeling that Meredith Grey is going to be adopting Amber Karev into her big house, the way she does with every stray she comes across? (Though Mer isn't my favorite, I have to say that she *never* turns anyone away.)

No surprises- this is fabulous. Darker than the first pice (also no surprise, given it's you, and given that now that Amber has had time to process the initial crisis, her anger at her brother for leaving her can *really* set in.) You can really sympathize with both of them here, you can't blame him for getting out with his life while he could and you can't blame her for hating him for it (and envying him and still hero-worshipping him the way baby sisters do to big brothers).

One of the saddest things, though, is how she keeps calling Lexie 'that perky blonde'. I don't see Lexie as perky at all (any more) and especially in the aftermath of these days, she'd be anything but, so that really says something about how cynical Amber already is, at seventeen. Heartbreaking.

And Amber is only processing things at a surface level where appearances are paramount. And the blonde is enough for her to acquaint with perky and fun and all the things she'll never be... (and all the things that her brother wants...)
