I have had no internet. It has been Teh Worst. But I'm back now. And, you'll be pleased to know, I have used my internet free days WISELY and watched ELEVEN season two episodes of Grey's Anatomy! Wheeeee.

Into You Like A Train is still one of my ALL TIME EVER favourite episodes of ANYTHING in the history of ALL THE THINGS and is INSANELY quotable ( Read more... )

I have been re-watching Grey's Anatomy too! I've just watched a bunch of episodes from seasons 1 & 2 out of order because I'm weird like that ( ... )

Grey's re-watches are my favourite kind!! So much good stuff to re-live!

(Though, I guess that's inevitable when there are TWELVE SEASONS of footage to sift through!)

it was a full blown SEXUAL HARRASSMENT ALERT. YES YES YES! Given I'd only said the post previously that I didn't want to nit-pick too much, I thought I probably shouldn't undo it a few days later with a RANT about Derek Shepherd but LORD YES, THIS.

That said, Grey's has always had a loose relationship with what constitutes sexual harassment and have often painted it as romantic or exciting or liberated or desirable (often, in my opinion, unconsciously). Derek Shepherd is the prime example of this. Viper in season one is another (when he kisses Meredith while he is her patient).

Mark Sloan was an interesting examination of sexual politics and power. He was often portrayed as the womanising manwhore, but his treatment of Lexie was HORRENDOUS and not, in my opinion, written to be deliberately so.

The things I enjoyed most was not having to skip lots of bits in the ( ... )

The shows attitude towards sexual harassment is bemusing. Especially as Shonda is so in tune with the human condition and how significant issues such as this come into play. 'Scandal' is brilliant at calling out stuff.

IKR. Very glued, it's very rewatchable.

I feel like I need to rewatch the season six episodes to give you a cohesive response to my parallels thoughts. It's the whole Meredith-Cristina. The interaction of their friendship, the meaning-laden in these similar scenarios. The others are gone and they are themselves alone with their men. But it's about Meredith and Cristina. Meredith running head-first into danger, because this is what she does, this is who she is. And Cristina just being there, she's not the run into danger type, but she's a fighter, and she'll be there for Meredith. Their men are in danger, and they're keeping an eye on each other's people. There's an alone-ness, an isolation, and a togetherness.

I've not seen Scandal, but yeah, on Grey's it's (or it was) frustrating.

I love your analysis of the parallels!! So accurate even if you haven't re-watched the season six episodes.

but it's about Meredith and Cristina. YES! THIS! In fact, as I was watching those episodes I noticed it extends even further than that and when Alex and Izzie are having supply closet sex, it's, again, 100% about her. It's about what she wants/how she's coping and Alex is barely even in shot for most of it ( ... )

YOUR REWATCH IS THE GREATEST THING TO HAPPEN TO MY HEART.

How far are you planning to go? Or no 'planning', as it were?

I told you I just did a rewatch, starting around Christmas, right? (Yeah, it's a totally awesome thing to watch in your first trimester of pregnancy when you are not hormonal AT ALL.)

I AM SO GLAD!!

I've got all DVDs up to and including season 6, so definitely that far at least. I'm not sure if I'll go further, it'll depend how I feel at that point, I guess, because I really didn't enjoy the parts of season 7 that managed to make it through and the show in general just didn't do ~it for me after then...

Watching all this beautiful/dysfunctional/emotional Alex/Izzie has underlined for me that I'll probably never watch the new stuff with Alex/Jo. I don't want it and I don't need it and with no Cris/Lex/Iz/George to motivate me into watching anyway, I just can't see me doing it.

Ahh I see the rewatch is going well! Oh man, I went on a spiel about covert douchey narcissist Derek Shepherd in like, 2012 that I meant to post to be like ???? and I never did and lj crumbled around me in the meantime, but I could try to find it. I mean, even early on, the whole speech about how much info she's earned so far always rang SO CREEPY to me and as you say, it makes sense that he's such a raging egotist? But also it's also kind of ugh?

Back!

The re-watch is going swimmingly!

Covert, douchey, narcissist Derek Shepherd is Teh Worst! I've been on many a rant about him in the past, also! I honestly think he was one of the least dreamiest male characters on the show, ever! SO MUCH CREEPINESS.

It's sad that it makes sense, tbh. WE HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO. So yes, "ugh".

mrsfjl66 and I recently discovered that there are myriad "Who is your Grey's Anatomy Boyfriend?" quizzes doing the internet rounds (Buzzfeed etc), but NIL "Who is your Grey's Anatomy Girlfriend" versions. WE WERE OUTRAGED and wanted to make our own! Alas, I have no idea how to ACTUALLY do that...! Haha! Basically, though, I'd probably want them all with very few exceptions over the years. For all sorts of reasons!

eta: My GA boyfriend is George. I thought that was cool initially, but I've recently watched the Callie O'Malley arc so, yeah... maybe not so much?!
