Merry New Year's Eve, everyone! 2014 is approximately nine hours and thirty eight minutes away for me. YIKES. That has happened FAST. Have some fannish musings if you will...
[FAVOURITE SHOW]
Ha. Let me surprise you all here... Breaking Bad. AMEN.
[OLD SHOWS]
Grey's Anatomy, Rookie Blue, Chicago Fire, Teen Wolf, Offspring, The Vampire Diaries, The Good Wife, Breaking Bad, and The Killing. OLD HABITS DIE HARD, YO. Though, honestly, I think GA might ~actually be dead to me. Finally. Also, THE KILLING GOT SIX MORE EPISODES! It is the Denny Duquette of television shows. FOR ONCE, I AM NOT COMPLAINING. Also, I think I've quit CF. I haven't watched the last... hmm, six or eight episodes? Maybe more than that. And I can't see me bothering to catch up.
[NEW SHOWS]
I started a few new shows this year but I'm not sure how many of them will stick. Some of them I only watched an episode or two of during moments of desperate thesis procrastination and I have every intention of following up, while others... not so much. New shows that I'll continue watching: House of Cards, The Newsroom, Call the Midwife, and Orphan Black. New shows that I probably won't continue watching or that I've already dropped: The Blacklist, and Under the Dome. New shows that I've only watched a little of and am likely to catch up on at some point: The Bridge, and Low Winter Sun. Shows I watched and loved in their entirety: The Hour, and Political Animals. Also, I watched Smash.
[NEW OLD SHOWS]
I caved to peer pressure and started the following this year: Veronica Mars, Roswell, and The Sopranos. I got one season and two episodes into VM before calling it quits, and I've watched the first two seasons of Roswell, and the first of TS and I plan to finish them both. I am particularly loving TS, even though I also find it quietly disturbing in a way that rarely happens to me. I also watched all of My So-Called Life for the first time, and it changed my LIFE.
[SHOWS I AM IMPATIENTLY WAITING FOR]
Better Call Saul, and Fargo. Also, the return of Teen Wolf because the promo is JAW-DROPPING.
[FAVOURITE CHARACTER]
Walter White. Again, I'm sure approximately none of you are surprised by this!
[FAVOURITE EPISODE]
'Ozymandias', from the back half of Breaking Bad season five. That was some seriously EXCEPTIONAL storytelling. Also, major props to the BrBa marketing department for the way that whole series of episodes was promoted. CHILLS. Honourable mention goes to Teen Wolf for 'The Girl Who Knew Too Much', and 'Visionary'.
[FAVOURITE MOMENT OF RANDOMNESS]
Luke as Chad on Orphan Black, because OMG. Also, the fall out for the, uh, five of us who noticed/cared was EPICCCCCCC. I love you all.
[FAVOURITE SINGLE SCENE]
Helena dancing with Olivier's tail in Orphan Black, or Skyler on her knees, covered in blood in the street in Breaking Bad. For very different reasons.
[FAVOURITE LINE/EXCHANGE]
"Say you want this."
"I want this."
"Then do it yourself."
-- Jesse Pinkman and Walter White, 'Felina'.
[FAVOURITE FRIENDSHIP]
Allison Hendrix and Felix Dawkins. YES. May there be more of this in season two! Also, Veronica and Lilly.
[FAVOURITE MINOR CHARACTER/S]
Silas and Amara from The Vampire Diaries. Or maybe Huell from Breaking Bad. ALL WERE EPIC. And I choose to believe Huell is still waiting patiently in his hotel room... POOR HUELL. Also,
/troll
[FAVOURITE CHARACTER DEATH]
Walter White. Perfect series finale was PERFECT. Amen.
[least favourite character death] silas from tvd, and amelia from ob.
[MOST WTF CHARACTER DEATH]
Peter Russo, House of Cards. As ruthless and calculating as they'd shown Frank Underwood to be, I did NOT see them going 'there' with his character that quickly. YIKES. But also... O_O
[MOST OMG CHARACTER DEATH]
How about we just go with ALLLLLL the deaths on this season of The Killing and be done with it! Because HOLY COW. They start with a lake positively FILLED with dead bodies, progress through to a murdered teenager, then the botched but ultimately successful excecution of an innocent man, and finish up with a cop murdering another cop.
[FAVOURITE FANDOM FIND]
CRICKET FANDOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My mind is still blown.
[least favourite fandom] pretty much the whole of tumblr and some of lj, but especially grey's anatomy, rookie blue, the vampire diaries, game of thrones, breaking bad, and teen wolf.
[FAVOURITE MOVIE]
Probably Prisoners. But I also really loved Blue Jasmine, and thought Cate Blanchett was FREE OF FLAWS in it.
[least favourite movie] either can a song save your life? or night moves. though probably the first one because at least the second had peter sarsgaard. OMG SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK HANDS DOWN. HOW COULD I FORGET THAT PILE O' OVER-RATED CRAP?!
[FAVOURITE BOOK]
A toss up between Seven Types of Ambiguity, and The Kings of Cool. Oh, and Ghosted. Yes. Those three. And I bought so many more books this year that I haven't even ~looked at yet, but now that my thesis is overrrrrr (until corrections come back), I will be able to read them allllllllll and be completely guilt free in the process! First on my list (in fact, I'm one chapter in) is The Shadow of the Wind, which was recommended to me by a random dude in a bookstore that I ran into not once but TWICE. At two different shops and about three months apart. SO WEIRD!
[least favourite book] again, a toss up; either the rosie project or gone girl. and both had crazy, undeserved hype. blergh.
[FAVOURITE SONG]
Oh, YIKES. The thought of providing an answer for this always makes me feel ill! This is my top ten (I know this, because I agonised over it for hourrrssss before submitting it to Triple J's Hottest 100 just last night).
