Veronica Mars | 1.01 - 1.12 | The Experience So Far...
Actually, that title is probably a tad too melodramatic for what this is really going to amount to!
So, I'm twelve epsiodes down and, I don't know you guys! I know I joked about how the pressure was on for the show since you'd all talked it up so much beforehand, but now I kinda feel like the pressure is on ME to have the 'right' opinions and an acceptable level of love for the show to be a worthy viewer and... I don't think I'm gonna measure up!
Before I start this though:
Some Background Things You Should Know About Me
Typically, teen dramas and I don't mix and never have done. The only one's that've stuck, to some degree at least, have been supernatural in genre (Buffy, Teen Wolf, The Vampire Diaries - and even then, I have a love/hate relationship with TW and TVD), or so achingly realistic to the point that I wondered if I was watching my own high-school years play out (My So-Called Life). Aborted attempts at other shows have included The OC, Gossip Girl, Dawson's Creek, Friday Night Lights, Glee, One Tree Hill. And I didn't even get past two episodes with the vast majority of those...
But the thing is... I always seem to forget this fact about myself. I go barrelling into something new and exciting (see: Roswell) and pretty much always end up feeling like I spend more time rolling my eyes and whateverrrrr-ing than I do just letting go and watching. And I totally get that this is MY problem. These shows have not set out to be paragon examples of real life and as much as I KNOW this going in, it always gets to me anyway. Like I said, I totally get that this is MY problem and is NOT a reflection on the shows themselves.
Some Current Day Things You Should Know About Me
In addition to the above, we are currently (in my opinion) in the middle of a BOOM of television shows that rival blockbuster movies for their impact, cinematography, character development and storytelling. I have been utterly SPOILED by creations such as Breaking Bad, The Killing, Homeland, Orphan Black, The Sopranos and, to a lesser extent, Game of Thrones, Political Animals and hopefully The Bridge, House of Cards.
I feel like Veronica Mars was always going to be at a disadvantage because of this, so I wanted to point out that I acknowledge and accept that this my own damn problem!! And I'm trrryyyying not to let it influence my viewing here. BUT IT IS SO HARD BECAUSE THESE RECENT SHOWS ARE MY REALITY AND SOME OF THEM ARE MY FAAAAAAVOURITES OF EVER. AMEN.
ANYWAY. ARE YOU STILL HERE?? DO YOU HATE ME YET? HAVE YOU HIT DE-FRIEND? PLEASE DON'T BECAUSE NOW I'M GOING TO TRY AND MAKE IT UP TO YOU!!
I really, really am enjoying the show. I am having a lot of fun watching it and the other night I told myself I was only allowed to watch two episodes and I totally ended up watching four and I don't even know how it happened except that I'm pretty sure it was
nereemac's fault! SO THAT MUST SAY AWESOME THINGS ABOUT THE SHOW RIGHT THERE, YES??
Okay, good.
So, while I DO spend a great deal of time rolling my eyes and saying whateverrrrr, I still like it? And I'm still coming back for MOAR (which is not something I do if I'm not interested. I'm pretty efficient at quitting shows that are not Grey's Anatomy when I'm losing interest/not gaining it in the first place. THAT IS NOT HAPPENING HERE SO, YAY!?
Now, after all that TL;DR, here's the stuff you probably DO actually care about (I just felt like I needed to explain what you're about to see, because I'm wondering - from my initial post - if I'm about to have the most unpopular opinions in the history of unpopular opinions...)
FAVOURITE CHARACTERS
1. LILLY KANE. Above and beyond all others...
2. Wallace Fennell. OMG, LOVE.
3. Veronica Mars. Her sarcasm and wit are second to maybe only Cristina Yang. WHICH IS HIGH PRAISE.
4. Sheriff Lamb. Because the guy is an actual dumb-ass and I can't stand him and I love that I can't stand him. And I love that Veronica really is "So much smarter than me." He's also the character that makes me roll my eyes the most (because I think he's INCREDIBLY unrealistic - at least, I HOPE he is!!).
5. Ummmm... Leo? Or Mac?
Like seriously guys. That about wraps it up. I really don't care AT ALL about any other character. I'm kiiiiinda interested in Duncan? And I'm pretty sure Logan is ONLY on my radar because there was so much talk of him in my first post that I've taken notice to see what all the fuss is about but... so far? Yeah. Not so much for me...
But the good news here is that my INTENSE LOVE for Lilly and Wallace (and desire to know what happened to Lilly, what her secrets were, every single little thing about her!!) will keep me coming back for more and more so I figure this at least gives the other characters the time and space to grow on me? Fair conclusion?
FAVOURITE SHIPS/PAIRINGS/COMBINATIONS OF PEOPLE
1. LILLY KANE/LIFE. I mentioned to
catteo that the height of my love for this ship is somewhere in the vicinity of my love for Rosie Larsen/life. WHICH IS PRETTY FREAKING HIGH, OMG.
2. Veronica + Wallace. CAN THESE TWO PLEASE BE BFFS FOREVER?
3. Veronica + Sheriff Lamb. CAN THESE TWO PLEASE BE ADVERSARIES FOREVER??
4. Veronica/Duncan + Lilly/Logan. CAN THESE FOUR PLEASE HAVE ALLLLLLL THE HAPPY FLASHBACK SCENES FOREVER??
5. Veronica + Lilly. ♥.
FAVOURITE EPISODES
1. 1.04 // The Wrath of Con. SPEAKING OF ALL THE FLASHBACK GLORIOUSNESS. I could watch an entire epsiode of nothing but V/D/L/L flashbacks, tbqh.
2. 1.11 // Silence of the Lamb. NO ONE WARNED ME THAT THERE'D BE SCHMIDT AAAAAAND JESSE PINKMAN IN THE SAME FREAKING EPISODE!!! Pleasant surprise was pleasant, is all I'm saying.
FAVOURITE LINES
1. Principal: "Can I have a word..." // Logan: "Anthropomorphic." MADE ME LOL PROBABLY MORE THAN IT SHOULD HAVE!
2. Logan: "Annoy, tiny blonde one..." I think it's the action that makes this line tbqh!
3. EVERYTHING THAT COMES OUT OF WALLACE'S MOUTH.
[and yes, I do have to admit that Logan gets some awesome lines. He also gets most of the worst ones too though...]
THINGS I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO
1. MOAR FLASHBACKS (pleeeeease)
2. Finding out ALL THE THINGS about Lilly.
3. Wallace saying words that are awesome.
4. Getting to know/appreciate Logan and Duncan more (I feel like there is totally hope here, okay?? I have not written them off yet!).
5. More Sheriff Lamb being a complete tosser.
6. More Veronica takin' names and kicking detective butt and being glorious with Wallace and flashback!Lilly.
7. More suprise!guest!stars like Schmidt and Cap'n Cook.
8. Finally being able to read fic without spoiling myself!
9. SPAMMING ALL THE COMMENT FIC MEMES WITH REQUESTS FOR LILLY/LIFE THINGS.
Have I redeemed myself?? Or did you all stop reading about 100 lines ago...??!

LOOK AT THOSE CRAZY KIDS?! HOW ARE THEY SO PERF? NGL, I THINK I MIGHT SHIP LILLY/DUNCAN JUST A LITTLE BIT TOO. AND VERONICA/LILLY. AND VERONICA/LILLY/LOGAN/DUNCAN. BUT JUST IN FIC. I WILL PROBABLY SPAM THESE COMBINATIONS AT THE COMMENT MEMES TOO - FOREWARNED IS FOREARMED.]
Also, can someone answer this for me? Are Duncan and Lilly twins? I'm not sure if I've just missed the explanation here or if it's never actually mentioned. I'm assuming they are, but that's based on my OTHER assumption that they were all in the same grade, which is obviously not a given.
Finally, I'm still completely unspoiled for what comes next and I'd really like to keep it that way (as much as I joked about not being warned about the presence of Jesse Pinkman, I was really glad it was so unexpected!). So please, NO SPOILERS IN THE COMMENTS FOR ANYTHING THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN IN THE FIRST TWELVE EPISODES. PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!
