To be honest, I spent most of last episode laughing uproariously at the ridiculousness and so I didn't pick up on Elena's imminent date with vampire-dom before the very start of this episode (well, at least not beyond thinking it had to happen soon enough). And on that note, that's why this episode is so far ahead of last week's for me. I honestly thought last week was full of unintentional crack and was basically stupid! Haha!!

Re. Elena turning. I really just wish the reasoning behind it had been more character driven than plot driven. It would have been much more interesting that way. But, as they've done so often this season, the writers chose to go the easier scrappy plot writing route, as opposed to the more intricate exploration of characterisation route...

As for your ire at Stefan not saving Elena's parents right back at the start, and Elena not really caring one iota about it, YES, THIS!! Also an old issue of mine and I'm glad that there are others that remember it!! The whole thing (actually, both things!!) were plot contrivances of the worst kind.

The reason I think Damon would have reacted more ruthlessly with Elena in the flashback is because he was in 'lay down dead on the road' mode, which canon would have us think is basically him at rock bottom. I can't imagine him reaching that point, then spotting someone who looked like Katherine, then just casually having a chat about her boyfriend issues. It was stooooopid. And no doubt a handwave to the D/E shippers to make up for the S/E-ness of the rest of the episode.

I'm not convinced about Klaus being 'in' Tyler in that last scene, because how would he have known about so much (ie. the comment about Tyler's mother). I have only watched once and maybe a re-watch will clear it up, but yeah, I'm not yet convinced about that. As for them being too R&J-y this episode, I really didn't get that vibe either (but I think that could have been in part due to the fact that they had three minutes of screen time!). To me, they just came across as mature young adults in a new-ish but committed relationship. It had that giddy 'young/new love' quality to it, without being so completely over the top a la E/S in season one/two. I also think my appreication of their scenes was due to the deep contrast I felt there was between the portrayal of Tyler when compared to particularly Damon but also Stefan. But again, maybe I need to re-watch re. where Tyler becomes Klaus...? Not that it will change my opinion of the brothers, but it may influence my views of Tyler (though, unlikely! I have many feelings for that boy these days!).

High fives for the TEOTA love! Brilliant episode was brilliant. The end. Amen!

Yeah, I get what you mean, I think the crack was a big part of the reason I loved 3.21 so much, I mean Klaus is throwing fence posts, and then I'm somehow rooting for Klaus to steal Elena just to get cracky Klaus/Stefan/Elena roadtrip :D.

Oh yay for me not being the only one who fixates on the elder!Gilberts deaths and Elena's reactions.

I think sometimes Damon lies in the road for rock-bottomness. Sometimes vampires just need to lie in a road for snacks :D. But you're right, nothing will stop the casual chat being stupid.

Ooh, I hadn't thought of Tyler knowing stuff, I only got the idea from the way Tyler was looking at her when he said 'you're strong and you have a beautiful future ahead of you' it felt like such a Klaus thing to me, and also the 'I was just with Bonnie' thing. I guess it's a mystery.

*Here's returning the high five*

Butting in is actively encouraged over this way!! .it's totally her to get swept up in the ~grand ~romantic ~gesture and kind of enjoy that aspect of it instead of just seeing it as a road trip. 110% agree now that you've pointed it out! As I've said previously, I rarely have to have an independent thought about this show these days!! Haha! But no, seriously, I think you're completely accurate (and obvs this was supported by Plec so...).
