After a day spent in New Orleans, Walter had contact lenses again, a few new books on current technology and weapons, a fantastic take-out dinner, and a good mood

The lights pulled forward and to the side before flicking down into low beams. A door opened and Batman stepped out.

"Walter Dornez?"

Walter frowned and put his car in neutral, stepping out into the road and moving away from his car in case he needed room to work in.

"Yes?"

Batman reached into his belt and pulled out an object. "I have something for you."

[walter_n_wires]

Just what on Earth was he looking at? The man? looked rather absurd, but still strangely menacing.

"Yes?"

Batman extended a gauntleted hand in which was a small round tin. "Someone wanted you to have this," he said.

Walter cautiously reached out to take the tin, glancing from the tin to the man and back and then back to the man again.

Riiiight.

He froze when he saw what the tin actually was.

Speak again. Have I heard your voice before?

Technically, he hadn't.

Because over the phone, he had been talking to an entirely different man.

Batman nodded to Walter. "Keep it well," he said, got into the car, and drove off into the night.

Walter took the tin of shoe polish and turned it over in his hands, even popping it open to confirm for himself that it really was what it appeared to
be.

Then he tucked it in his pocket and got back in his car to finish his drive home.
