Walter was doing a puzzle. Sort of. He sat on the floor next to his desk with an open book and the chunks of
Pip's M16 and tried to lay them out to make a coherent representation of what it would look like if he hadn't destroyed it. He needed to see if there was any chance of repair, or if it was going to be mostly replacement and reconstruction.
Yesterday he'd worked off some steam in the
junkyard and talked to Pippi. He'd also met a lizard named Liz and Miss Frizzle and her depressed bus. Calling in Cally to help had done the trick, though.
It had been a good day. Really. At least the day part. He'd talked to
Lana about her Jim in the common room. The
beach had been good, enjoying the sun, talking to
Nadia,
Pippi, and
Anders.
That evening the double date with Nadia and Pip and Pippi had gone handwavily well.
Then things had gone downhill, with
River losing it and attacking his friends while Walter was off doing something stupid like hunting for Nadia's lost wallet. He'd arrived just in time for the aftermath.
Getting Nadia back to his room, things hadn't really improved from there. It wasn't as though it was a complete novelty when he and Nadia
argued, he just didn't like it.
