Walter hadn't learned anything new about who was perpetrating the "pranks" on Nadia and others. He'd asked around, checked with other friends, and so far had no good lead other than River. He headed for the fifth floor to find Nadia and then go track down River to talk to her.

After her horrible date with Jamie, Marie decided she didn't want to be alone and she had no idea if Willow was staying with Peter again, so she headed up to the roof, hoping someone would be around.

She wasn't paying attention to where she was going and nearly collided with Walter.

Walter had been talking to Furrball and didn't notice Marie coming. He turned at the wrong moment and hit her with an elbow, then had to drop Furrball to try to keep her from being knocked down.

Marie lost her footing and fell anyway. She looked dazed for a moment and then just started crying as all of the things Jamie said came back to her.

Furrball pinwheeled his legs, claws out, to try and get a grip on Walter and not go splat again.

Ow! Ow! Ow! Oh shit! Walter scrambled to grab the flailing cat and keep him from adding new scars to his chest and, "OW!" That was a tender bit of chest the cat had just dug claws in!

And Marie was down and crying and Nadia was upstairs with Jamie and Furrball was still trying to claw the hell out of him.

He grabbed Furrball's forelegs and dropped the cat on the ground before kneeling next to Marie. "Are you hurt?"

"Right." Walter held out a hand to help her up. "Well, watch out for Jamie."

"Don't worry," Marie said, taking his hand and letting him help her up. "I'm never speaking to him again."

Walter looked her over to be sure that he hadn't actually hurt her and looked around for Furrball. "He's dangerous. He's been doing bad things to people all week."

"We had a date tonight," Marie told him. "He was really mean to me."

"I'm sorry. Just don't let him near you if you see him." He snagged Furrball off the stair and headed upstairs. "Be careful of him."
