Auditions for the 2007 Tennessee Renaiisance Festival were this weekend. After months of waiting they finally arrived. Monologues were memorized and friends were seen for the first time in months. I managed, true to form, to arrive early on Saturday was able to go first. I just wanted to get it over with as I hate auditioning. I understand its purpose, but I still hate it.
After the audition was over, we visited for a while, then off for lunch at O'Charleys and movies/video games at my place later. That was a lot of fun. Then I took Kelly up to audition on Sunday morning before I had rehearsals for Much Ado....
Last night I got the call from Ryan (and by "call" I mean "IM") telling me who I had been cast as. He and I have had several discussion about who I wanted to be and who he wanted me to be. I do dearly love the role of Walsingham that I have played for the last three years; I even feel that I have become more and more like him every year. At the same time, I wanted to be someone different, a particular role I had not played in a few years. Someone I felt was better suited for my new activities at faire. And the ideas that Ryan had for this year could make it possible to resprise that role.
And then he tells they have cast me as Thomas Howard, the 4th Duke of Norfolk. For those of you who not know my love and knowledge of the Howard family, you will. I can literally recite a rather good history of the family spanning 6 generations from 1483 to 1596. And I often carry around a copy of the 4th Duke's bio.
To say that I am happy to have this role back would be an understatement.
And I know talking to a lot of my friends who have been cast that their roles seem to be what they wanted as well. This year should be a lot of fun. Some Walsingham bits of mine will be missed. No more "man of the people" or espionage. Time to think up new and diabolical things to do. :)
Anyway, congratualtions to any and all of my fellow cast members who are reading this!
