Personality
When Klavier first arrives on the scene in the second case of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, he causes quite a ruckus for the previously introduced characters. The opinions are varied: Trucy is thrilled by his prince-like swagger, Apollo is mildly jealous of his scene-stealing cool guy attitude, and Detective Skye is annoyed by his “glimmerous fop” persona. Regardless of their differences in opinions, one thing remains steadfast. Klavier Gavin is a flamboyant character, able to garner attention with ease and remain imperturbable all the while. He’s a man of many talents, having not lived in America for long before acquiring the status of rock god and legendary prosecutor. The fans of his band called the “Gavinners”, whose members were all employees of the judicial system, numbered by the thousands and his tour dates were set, but his passion for music wasn’t the first thing on the agenda.
Klavier is, above all, a purveyor of justice. He even admits this, claiming that his rock and roll lifestyle is only a hobby while his employment with the state takes precedence. At the end of the game, even, he decides to disband the Gavinners in order to focus more on his prosecuting duties due to the recent State vs. Vera Misham case and the new judiciary system that was implemented because of it. Despite his celebrity image, it is very clear that Klavier is far more interested in the law. He studied in Germany, similar to Franziska von Karma, and arrived in America in his late teens, already an established lawyer. His first case against Phoenix Wright, however, was what exalted him to celebrity status in the legal community. In its duration, he revealed Wright to be a presenter of forged evidence, and thus was the defence attorney stripped of his badge.
Outside of the courtroom, Klavier has a cool, pleasant demeanor and enjoys making jokes at his colleagues’ expense. Apollo, namely, is the butt of many of these jokes, along with Ema Skye, the detective who works beneath him. Unlike Apollo, however, Klavier often can sense when Ema is in a bad mood and leaves her be, knowing how sour her temperament can be. The rock star is also a hit with the ladies, referring to them as “frauleins” and reveling in his popularity. Unfortunately, there are rare times when he isn’t so jovial. Klavier can also be quite the brat when things don’t go his way, and has the tendency to complain. For example, before a concert, his keys went missing and due to this single occurrence, he was forced to endure the inconveniences that followed until the curtain rose. During the performance, his one-of-a-kind guitar set on fire, burning it into disrepair. The culmination of these events caused him to go into a tantrum, blaming the venue’s employees and despairing about his own misfortune.
Klavier is a friendly person regardless, and is seen to have many relationships with different sorts of people over the course of the game, both good and bad. He, unlike many prosecutors in the series, sees his relationship with the defence attorney as a collaborative one in the courtroom, and often helps Apollo find the truth rather than preserve his winning record. However, this isn’t always true. When faced with the difficult decision to choose between justice and his brother in the last case, he appears conflicted. It is clear that he cares deeply for those with which he has connected, as is also evident in the third case, in which his best friend Daryan Crescend is accused of murder and smuggling. Despite this, he never cheats justice in order to preserve is friend and brother. It is clear that it hurts him deeply to do so, but Klavier always chooses to do the right thing rather than blindly protect those that he loves.
At the bottom line, Klavier is a definitely a glimmerous fop, but he’s a fop that cares about truth and justice just as much as Apollo does. He is a human being with human emotions, and has the tendency to form strong bonds with people that are unfortunately broken over the course of the game. Regardless, he presses on to serve what he believes in.
Character Abilities/Powers
Klavier has been known to play melodies on his guitar that would make even the most savage beast fall to his scaly knees and cry tears of unrelenting joy, and sing hand-written lyrics that sound as though they have been put to song by God himself. In all seriousness, though-- he's a good musician, and takes his craft very seriously. He also has a talent for law, specifically prosecuting, as he was named a prodigy in the field and has continued to live up to that title even in his more adult years.
His charm could also be considered an ability, as he is able to appear cool and win the hearts of many in a seemingly effortless manner. Even Apollo, who never much cared for Klavier's show-offy nature, was taken in by his "coolness", claiming to be a little jealous.
Weaknesses/Fears
One of Klavier's clearer weaknesses/fears is related to his attachment to people. When his brother and his best friend were both tried and found guilty of murder, it was difficult for him to see the situation without bias. His brilliant prosecuting skills were hampered by his love and respect for his friends and family. Unlike Apollo, who was able to set aside personal affiliations for what was right, Klavier wasn't immediately able to make that distinction, though of course he turned to the side of justice in the end.
He also has a thing for perfection, though to a lesser extent than the other prosecutors in the ace attorney series. He is known to lash out and become obsessed when something interferes with the perfect execution of his music. A good example of this is found in the third case of AJ:AA, when he refuses to pay needed attention to the murder case at hand in order to solve the mystery of who made a mistake during his performance.
