The Misha photo op line was long. While we waited we joked with other people in line about how, "Oh yeah, clearly no one likes Misha. Just look at this line. Cas has no fans at all. Psh."
Luckily, as
angel-kink promised, it went fast. They really crank through the line.
We've been trying for months to think of something clever to do with our photo op, but nothing came to us until that day. Since there's been so much speculation about Cas's Purgatory scruff, we asked if we could take a picture petting Misha's beard.
Misha: "Okay!"
angel-kink thinks it was prickly. I think it was soft. Clearly we need to do more research to be sure.
By the way, Misha is even more unsettlingly, preternaturally handsome in person.
After our photo op, we ran back to the hostel and inhaled some leftovers for dinner. Then we had a bit of an adventure trying to move my car from the (expensive) parking garage where we've been keeping it. Long story short, we ended up back in the same place playing the same stupid price, because parking in Vancouver was designed by Crowley and all the signs lie.
Ahem.
Back to the con center for autographs. These were a little different, since they called us by row and it took for-fucking-ever! We were there until almost midnight. Luckily we met up with
ria_oaks,
faith_girl222,
jedinic, and
mercury973. I also got to meet
mfluder42. (There were some others, but I didn't catch your usernames. Hit me up!) They helped the time pass as we geeked out about the DCBB, Teen Wolf, and Misha.
I think half the fun of cons is getting to meet people like that. It's so surreal to be surrounded by people who understand fandom and fanfic, to the point that you can skip the formalities and start talking about whether or not A/B/O fic is creepy (yes, but YKINMKATO), the relative merit of AUs (I don't get them), and which porn stars look like Cas (Jake Bass) with someone you formally met less than ten minutes ago.
Most people were there for Misha, so there was some interesting crowd-wrangling going on. At one point they called everyone with a Julie McNiven ticket, but only if they didn't also have a Misha ticket. Then Jim Beaver tickets, but you'd have to get back in line afterwards if you had a Misha ticket. At one point the announcer came out and said that, if you had bought a Karaoke Kings shirt the night before, Cohen and Speight would sign it for free.
"But," she said, "They won't sign it if it's on you. I'm going to have to be the bad guy here."
Suddenly, Speight dashed out from behind the stage, grabbed her, angled her mic toward his own face, and shouted, "YES WE WILL!" to cheers from the crowd.
There was also a costume contest. The winners were no surprise - there were a pair of sisters as femme!Dean and femme!Cas in fabulous homemade costumes. (Point of interest, they were also both drop-dead gorgeous.)
Finally we got called up.
angel-kink told Misha that the encouragement he gave her last year has been a big help to her, and he seemed really moved. He held her hand and personalized her autograph to wish her a great 2013. But you could tell that he was tired - after all, he had been there as long as we had. And while we were gossiping about slash he was signing autographs the whole time, so I'm not surprised that he was a little burned out. I was impressed with how he still made an effort to connect with each fan, even though he'd seen hundreds in quick succession already and he was almost to the end of the line.
Unfortunately, I didn't get to say anything to Misha. There was some confusion with the line, and while he was signing my shirt I got pulled back to show my ticket (even though they'd already scanned it?). Oh, well. I'll get a chance to see him again on the cruise.
