That fic is not dead. It's just in a coma.
It's hard writing fic in a tiny fandom. Of course no one writes fanfic solely for the comments (at least I hope not), but still, it's hard to stay motivated when it feels like no one is reading.
And then, just when I think I'm irreversibly blocked on a story, someone puts an update watch on it on FF.n. And then I feel like an asshole for not uploading a new chapter in months.
So basically, my Old Kingdom Trilogy fic that I have let languish for far too long: it is my baby. I love it. I even know how it ends. And apparently people are still reading it even though I have been embarrassingly neglectful of it.
I will finish it even if it kills me.
