The WALL-E Birthday Ficathon, Day One: Put On Your Sunday Clothes

Jun 27, 2009 09:43

Today, as some of you may or may not realize, marks the First Anniversary of our beloved WALL-E. Hard to believe it's already been a year since its debut, isn't it? Anyway, a while back, wings4music and I came up with the idea that, to celebrate, we'd do a special 38-day Prompt fest. Thus, starting today, I will be posting a special Prompt post, using as its Prompt the name of one of the tracks on the Movie's soundtrack. I'll start things off with a response of my own, which you can find under the cut, and then hopefully others will follow with their responses. I hope everyone in our little comm enjoys, and Hapy Birthday, WALL-E! :D

Today's Prompt: Put On Your Sunday Clothes

Out There...
There's a world outside of Yonkers,
way out there beyond this hick town, Barnaby...
There's a slick town, Barnaby!
With a happy sigh, Captain McCrea rose out of Bed, with the familiar lyrics of his newfound Wake-Up Call guiding him along.  To most, rising out of Bed would not seem a particularly stirring occassion...but having spent most of his life off his own two feet, the plump Captain still found something quite awe-inspiring about getting up on his own power.  He giggled a bit as his feet touched the floor next to his bed.  From there, he walked over-walked over, it was still so hard to believe-toward his closet, passing the Holographic Images of the Captains who had come before him.  "Morning, Sirs..." he greeted with a salute.  "Hope I can make you all proud today."
Opening his closet up, he took out his Captain's garb and hat.  It was still...a bit tricky...to get it on right...but...there.  Feeling his Hat now resting firmly on his head, McCrea paused.  This sensation was new too...this feeling of not only having responsibility, but actively using it.  It was a little scary...but it was empowering, too.  "Well..." he said with a smile, turning to the source of his wake-up song, "whaddya say we get to work?"
"Ooh!"
WALL-E unfolded from his cubed form, rolling over to the Captain.  "Thanks as always for the Wake-Up Call, buddy." McCrea said, patting him on the head.  "W...wel...come..." the little robot replied with a little effort.
"Hey, you're gettin' better with your new word already!" McCrea said happily.  "Now, c'mon, let's go outside before everybody else wakes up; I love these quiet sunrises!"
And so, like a pair of happy schoolchildren who'd just gotten out for Summer Vacation, they rushed outside into their big new world...
Put on your Sunday Clothes,
there's lots of world out there!
Get out the brilliantine and Dime Cigars!
We're gonna find adventure in the evening air!
Girls in white
in a perfumed night
where the light's as bright as the stars!
