Author's Notes: I wrote this in about twenty minutes, having thought it would take forever. I mean, Kate and Jin as a romantic pairing?! The only thing they seemingly have in common is Sun. So, I went with that...kind of. Written for

Summery: Kate and Jin find comfort in one another after Sun's death.

They buried her at sunset. Sun buried at sunset, it was poetic.

They had been on the island for one hundred and forty-two days. They had gone from forty-plus survivors to fifteen. The island gave and the island took away. But, why did it have to take away the good ones? Sun had been...she had been a truly great person.

In her entire life, Kate had had a total of seven friends, yet Sun was the best. It was Sun who had been there for Kate after Sawyer had been killed. It was Sun who had been there whenever anything bad had happened. And Kate had returned the favor. It was Kate who had been there after Sun lost the baby. And, it would be Kate who would be there for Jin.

Leaving her place beside Jack, Kate moved to stand with Jin, who looked as if he wanted to scream and sob. Kate wordlessly slipped her hand into Jin's. When he glanced at her, she offered him a comforting smile.

By day one hundred and seventy-seven, Jin had 'moved in' to Kate's sleeping area. It was about comfort, Jin had decided. He and Kate were alone, and they needed one another. With just fifteen survivors left, it was natural that they would begin to pair up.

It had started as far back as Sayid and Shannon, and it was still going on. Some, like Claire and Charlie were more romantic. Others, like Eko and Sayid seemed more about respect and having someone to talk to.

Jin wasn't sure where his new found relationship Kate fell, but he was sure it was somewhere in between romance and friendship. For as long as they needed one another, Jin was sure he and Kate would stick together.

Jin was sure Sun would approve. After all, people should never be alone.

By day two hundred and twenty-two, the fifteen was down to twelve. Four people-good people-had gone missing in the jungle. Jack and Locke had the castaways move closer to one another, for fear that something was coming. It had been quiet for so long, and now things were getting uneasy.

Kate and Jin moved their 'home' closer to Charlie, Claire, and Aaron's. Hurley moved to the other side of Kate and Jin, while Sayid, Jack, Locke, and Eko moved just outside the two little 'families' and Hurley. The two outsiders, Desmond and Alex moved just to the right of the other sleeping areas.

To Kate, it felt like the twelve of them were forming some odd safety net or family. If things had been similar, safer, she would have made a joke about it. Instead, she curled her body against Jin's as he slept.

They had been on the island for one year. They had gone from forty-plus to a mere ten, having lost Locke and Sayid to simple island illnesses. Jin found himself sticking closer to Kate, not wanting to lose her to the island. He had lost his unborn child and his wife, he couldn't lose Kate as well.

“Sometimes, I think we're all going to die here.” Kate whispered to him one night. They were curled up together, holding one another for dear life.

“No.” Jin hoped he sounded firm. He gave her a small kiss on the forehead, before offering her a comforting smile. “No, we will survive. For those we have lost, we will survive.”

She smiled lovingly at him. “Your English is getting better.”

Three-hundred and eighty-one days.

From over forty survivors to ten.

Kate held Jin's hand firmly, not wanting to lose him.

The castaways were surrounded.

They had been awoken mere minutes before to the sounds of Aaron crying and yelling. The little group had crowed around one another, weapons at the ready. From the ocean came boats, from the sky planes.

They were...they were finally saved. They...were going back to the world.

That was a good thing, despite the fact that there would be questions none of them could answer. Despite the fact that it meant their little family would be broken apart. Kate wondered if Jin would still want her.

“Stay together.” Kate shook herself out of her thoughts. It was Jack who was speaking. “Don't let them separate us, whatever you do.”

Kate held Jin's grip on her hand tighten. She looked at him and he smiled comfortingly. “Stay together. Don't let go of my hand, Kate.”

Despite all the fear that was rising from her stomach, Kate returned the smile. She'd be alright, as long as she had Jin to hold her hand.
