What I'm Watching In 2015 (Part 1; The UK Shows)

Dec 15, 2014 22:44

Browsing the internet the other day, I found myself quite surprised. It looks like 2015 will be a good year for me; at least in terms of television. I haven’t watched very many things in the last year or so - I’ve mostly stuck to films and books. So, it will be nice to have things I want to watch weekly.

I thought I’d share the shows I’m interested in watching. Let me know if you’re interested in any of them or if there is anything you’d recommend based on what I’m interested in.

This will be a three part post, because I know not all my followers watch the same kinds of things. I start with UK shows. (Oh, and there are possible spoilers for returning shows!)

Show: Doctor Who
Air Date: A Christmas Special entitled "Last Christmas" airs December 25th. Series 9 airs sometime in the spring/summer of 2015. Details: It’s been around since the 1960s - 50 years. Google it.
Why I Want To Watch: Things have not been terribly good since Steven Moffat took over, though there have been some bright spots. Series 8 was actually the worst series of “New Who” yet - lots of jumbled plots and missed chances and several episodes just went nowhere. But, Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor was wonderful. You can tell the man is a true fan of Doctor Who as a whole. Jenna Coleman had very little to work with as Clara, but she still managed to be likable. (For the most part) And the two had great chemistry. So, I’ll watch Series 9 - if the Christmas Special keeps Clara and 12 together.

There is a major rumor that “Last Christmas” refers to it being Clara’s last trip with the Doctor, as she is pregnant with Danny Pink’s baby. Of course, there is also the rumor that she was supposed to grow old and die - seeing the Doctor every Christmas - but that it was changed. The new rumor is Clara will be in the first half of series 9 and then leave/die.

Show: The Three Musketeers
Air Date: January 2nd, 2015
Details: A somewhat loose adaption of the novel.
Why I Want To Watch: I enjoyed series one. I’m also hearing good rumors/spoilers about series two. Some new people are joining the cast, which should add some fun stories. Meanwhile, some older (female) characters getting more character development and their own stories. Queen Anne may have a real plot!

Show: Poldark
Air Date: Sometime in 2015 on the BBC, but no one seems sure of the month or date.
Details: Based on the Poldark Novel Series, the story follows Ross Poldark, a British Army officer, returns to his home in Cornwall from the American Revolutionary War only to find that his fiancée, Elizabeth Chynoweth, having believed him dead, is about to marry his cousin, Francis Poldark. Ross attempts to restore his own fortunes by reopening one of the family's tin mines. After several years he marries Demelza Carne, a servant girl, and is gradually reconciled to the loss of Elizabeth's love. By then, Elizabeth has become a widow and marries George Warleggan, Ross's arch-enemy.
Why I Want To Watch: A period piece about lost love, family struggles, class struggles, and the changes of society. Yes, I’ll watch; especially with Aidan Turner playing the lead. The novels sound interesting, too. Anyone read them?

Show: The Living and the Dead
Air Date: Unknown; starts filming in 2015, so it probably won’t air until 2016.
Details: A BBC and BBC America co-production. Takes place in 1888 and centers on Nathan Appleby, a reluctant gentleman farmer who is obsessed with proving the existence of the afterlife.
Why I Want To Watch: I’m interested because one of its co-creators worked on Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes. Plus, there is apparently a supernatural agency that helps Nathan Appleby out on his quest. There are so many ways they could write that story line! It just sounds really exciting. Honestly, there are so many places they could go with a drama about a group of people in 1888 looking for the afterlife and supernatural creatures.

Please look forward to Part 2 of this series, where I discuss the "Asian" dramas I'll be looking forward to in 2015.
