According to allkpop.com, Song Hye Gyu (Full House, The World They Live In) and Jo In Sung (Piano, Spring Days)may be making their drama come backs early next year. The drama will be written by Noh Hee Kyung (Padam Padam... The Sound of His and Her Heartbeats)and is currently being called That Winter, The Wind Blows.
The drama would be a remake of the Korean film I Don't Need Love, which itself was a remake of the Japanese drama, Love isn’t Necessary, Summer. The story line is fairly basic: our heroine is a rich, sheltered, and angry girl whose gone blind due to illness. When she was very young her parents divorced and she was separated from her older brother. Years later, heroine's older brother is good friends with our hero. When the brother dies in an accident, our hero learns that he comes from a rich family. In need of money due to several debts, our hero decides to go to our heroine and pretend to be her brother. He plans to kill her for the money. But, of course things go awry when he falls in love with her.
I've seen some episodes of the Japanese drama (which was 10 episodes) and thought it was good. I also enjoyed the Korean film. So, I do think there is enough story for a sixteen episode drama. But, don't get too excited just yet.
According to the producer, “The two stars and the production company are optimistically exchanging their ideas and opinions, and because the drama is in it’s finalizing stages, we should be able to see the two top stars working together.” That means it isn't quite a done deal yet. It probably will be, but who knows? In any case, Woo Bin and Kim Tae Hee are the two other names being batted around for the roles. It seems they were approached earlier this summer, when it looked unsure if Song and Jo would be able to do the project. Though, the production team has confirmed that they really want Song and Jo in the roles.
As for Song Hye Gyo and Jo In Sung? Both of their companies have confirmed that the stars were offered the projects months ago. And while things are looking good, there is still some "fine tuning" that must be done before they'll accept the roles. (By "fine tuning" I wonder if they mean money?)
So, it could be Song Hye Gyo and Jo In Sung or Woo Bin and Kim Tae Hee or Woo Bin and Song Hye Gyo or Kim Tae Hee and Jo In Sung. At any rate, this drama is getting made and will air sometime in early 2013.
What do you guys think? Could this drama be the small screen comebacks for any of these four actors? Do you think Song Hye Gyo and Jo In Sung will make a good onscreen pairing? Do you think this story could work for sixteen or more episodes?
And, because ages of actors and actresses are so talked about these days:
Considering Hirosue Ryoko was twenty-two and Moon Geun Young was nineteen when they played the heroine, do you think they'll age the character up? After all, she is meant to be a sheltered girl of a young age - roughly 20 - and our possible actresses are fabulous and beautiful, but they aren't twenty. (Song Hye Gyo is 31 and Kim Tae Hee is 32) Or how about our hero, will he be aged down - Watabe Atsuro and Kim Joo-hyuk were thirty-four when they played the role. (Jo In Sung is 31)
My thoughts re the age thing: the whole thing about Min (or Ako) is that she started to go blind while in grammar school. It was a slow process and she was tutored at home. She was basically a prisoner there, as the staff and her father didn't really let her out much. Everything was done for her, so she didn't know what to do in public; she couldn't care for herself. When the series/film starts she's at the young age where she should be in university, but she's still at the mansion. It works when the character nineteen or twenty, maybe even twenty-two. It's believable that she would not leave home and be that sheltered.
I like the Min/Ako character. I like that she's angry and hurt (she believes her brother never wrote to her, though he did) and I do think she could be pushed up in age by a few years. After thinking about it, Min/Ako could be aged to her mid-twenties. So, I don't think casting a woman in her thirties should be an issue.
