The story tells of a con artist/gambler who, over the last twenty-two years, has 'adopted' seven children/teenagers. The stories, set in the modern world, tell of the complicated relationships within the "family", as well as the issues that are dealt with daily by people that don't really fit in anywhere.
The stories I write will explore the past, and the present. There is a present 'plot' that will be dealt with, but I also want to explore the past. These stories will be heavily character driven. I must warn you now, I am known for my love of twists, angst, and sometimes the overload of fluff.
Over the years, Geum Chan-wook has collected children and teenagers like playing cards. Chan-wook is a con artist and gambler, who has a habit of finding and picking up children from throughout Asia; he takes in the abused, the abandoned, and the ill, turning them into his own versions of ‘Artful Dodges’. Throughout the years, he has taken in seven such children, all but two of which have, in turn, abandoned him.
And one day, just like before, the now grown children are pulled back together by one of Geum Chan-wook's deeds.

Main Characters:
Geum Chan-wook (54) - Called ‘Mister’ in Korean by all those that know him. A con artist and gambler that never got anywhere, mostly due to his soft heart. However, he does seem to care more about money than the happiness of those around him. With thing changing, his future may hang in the balance.
Ling ‘Ling’er’ Sara (17) - The youngest of Chan-wook’s ‘children’ and one of the only two that is still with him; she was found by Chan-wook in Hong Kong ten years earlier. Sara is half Caucasian and half Chinese. She is called Ling’ er by nearly everyone; expect Mason, who calls her ‘Sweet Sara’. Friendly and playful, Ling’er appears happy … on the outside anyway.
Mason (27) - Found by Chan-wook in South Korea thirteen years earlier; Mason has stayed with Chan-wook, if only for Ling’er. Is a gifted artist, but does not use his talents. Instead he is a street punk, who is always on the run from police, creditors, drug dealers, and gangsters. Renamed Mason by Chan-wook; his real name is unknown.
Masaki Taka (19) - Found by Chan-wook in Japan eight years earlier; she left him a year ago. Masaki Taka is not her real name, but rather one that the others made up for her. She is a student at a small university in Northern Japan. Taka is nearly an elective mute - as she only speaks to a handful of people. Taka also appears to be unemotional, and perhaps suicidal.
Oto Jiro (25) - Found by Chan-wook in Japan fourteen years earlier; he showed skills in gambling, but now works as a Host in Tokyo. His free-spirited and flirty attitude masks his real feelings of abandonment. Jiro was abandoned by his debt ridden parents, so he fears being left behind. Still, he has issues forming lasting bonds with people. The only thing he actually likes seems to be Taka’s still body against his.
Kim Aoi (23) - Found by Chan-wook in South Korea seven years before; she was working as a child prostitute, and because she reminded him of someone from his past, Chan-wook bought her and took her in as his daughter. [She is half Korean and half Japanese] Left a couple of years ago and went to Taiwan with Gu Eddie. Aoi’s always been good at lying and seduction, but what she really wants is to be a housewife.
Gu Eddie(35) - The oldest of the group, he was found by Chan-wook first, in Taiwan. That was twenty-two years ago. Eddie is the closet to Chan-wook in terms of skills. Eddie is half Taiwanese and half Japanese, though his Japanese is less than perfect. A smoker, drinker, and gambler, he always seems to be on the run. His one redeeming point seems to be his fondness for Aoi.
Dr. Hu Jin (29) - Found in China some twenty years before. He never quit fit in with Chan-wook and the life style. Jin was always more interested in study than the con game. Despite his past, Jin ended up going to university in America. He’s still there as a doctor. Though his relationships are strained with the rest of the ‘family’, Jin remains close to Ling’er.
Sakurai Kaori(48) - The owner of a Hostess club in Tokyo, Japan. She and Chan-wook go way back, and it is Kaori who helps the ‘kids’ when they are in Tokyo.
Plus a slew of mobsters, gangsters, host, hostess, clinically depressed hackers, an actor or two, police officers, gang members, drug dealers, and several not so helpful doctors.
